Knox County Commission member and car dealer Greg "Lumpy" Lambert says he grew suspicious Saturday when a customer didn't price haggle over a 2005 Ford Focus.
The young man didn't ask for a mechanical inspection, either.
Lambert says the man pulled a .25-caliber handgun from his pocket, apparently to rob him. Lambert pulled his own .380 caliber and the two were pointing weapons at each other for a tense moment.
The commissioner says he told the man to put down his gun and the man said he didn't want any trouble.
The suspect fled on foot and police later arrested 19-year-old Kane Stackhouse on an attempted robbery charge.
At the time of the robbery, Lambert was wearing a baseball cap that read, "Friends of the NRA." He says the would-be robber never asked for money or made demands -- but then, he didn't get much of a chance to.

If he didn't want trouble, he should never have pulled the .25. What he meant was, he didn't want somebody resisting, particularly not when he looked down the barrel of the much larger .38.

Well, if we're all riding buses, he won't need to sell cars, then, either.

MORE DETAILS FROM A GOOGLE SEARCH
The customer went out side to smoke a cigarette. Lumpy went outside to tell him it was time to do some paper work. When the man came back in Lumpy had a bad feeling and had his hand on his gun he keeps on him at most all times. The man started to pull his gun.....Bad move. Lumpy does quick draw competitions for fun and had his gun pointing down the criminals throat before the criminal had his own gun half drawn. After some harsh words the criminal dropped his gun.
He began to ask for his drivers license back but Lumpy told him to get out and be happy he got out alive. The police caught up to him a few hours later and he confessed.
Lambert was apparently wearing his "Friends of the NRA" hat at the time. This is what gunwriter Massad Ayoob likes to call "a failure of the victim selection process."

After some harsh words Harsh words - LOL - saw the interview with Lumpy about it - he tells the reporter "I told him he wasn't leaving with his gun, and I have to confess, I didn't say it quite that way - I had a potty mouth when I was telling him to drop the gun. Yes, I used bad language." Well - that's not an exact quote, but it's pretty close to it - especially the "potty mouth." I busted up listening to him.

Too bad Lumpy didn't ventilated him. Now someone else will probably have to be victimized or take out the garbage down the road.

Is this the same guy who a few years ago was givng away a free rifle with every car purchased? I'm pretty sure it was in the Knoxville area...some dealer spent a weekend giving away 8mm Mausers with each car sold. When the anti-gun rights crowd started to complain, he just told them to go impersonate a Klintoon intern, and kept on giving away the rifles. If so, good on him!

Jeff, Lumpy is very smart and probably remembers what happened to a retired State Trooper a few years back that ran a car lot in a nearby small town. The owner of the lot a retired trooper was shot and killed but unknown to the killers there was a camera on the lot that got a good picture and a conviction. I can't remember if the crook spotted the camera or not there is one other freeper near me who would remember the event but I can't recall his user name. The trooper was a nice guy and I had done business with him before.
The guy who robbed Lumpy must have been from out of town or out of his mind. There are or were several establishments everyone knew not to try and rob or rather this used to be the case. One was a small store on Middlebrook Pike now gone. The owner had taken out several attempted robbers.

Remember the retired trooper that had a car lot up on Clinton Hi-way in South Clinton at the old drive inn who got robbed and killed? I can't remember if the killer found the camera and tried to destroy it but I do remember they got the film and his sorry hide.
