I think he is a pro-amnesty moderate with an Hispanic surname. He's the guy the Bushes pushed for the Senatorial seat Harris originally wanted and then backed off of.
If its true, I'm NOT happy.
If the Republican Party leadership interprets what happened on election day as an endorsement of liberalism, they missed the message and will loose their conservative base along with a good number of indepedent Americans

He must know something about winning elections. He is the only Republican to be elected to the U. S. Senate from Florida in the last twelve years.

It's all about the Hispanic vote. Martinez sure sounds more Hispanic than "Bill Richardson".
Also, if I am not mistaken, Hispanics have just passed African-Americans as the largest U.S. minority. It all ties in with the "Comprehensive Immigration Pseudo-Amnesty". Rove is probably behind this strategery.

Yep, this is a blatant attempt at sucking up to Hispanic voters. When will we realize that outside of Cuban voters, going after the rest of Spanish voters is largely a waste of time? The conservative ones vote for us anyway, the rest are too steeped in their Liberation theology to listen to a conservative message.
