(Lebanon-AP, Nov. 13, 2006 12:25 PM) _ A town election official says a recount has discovered an error that gave Democrat Joe Courtney an extra 100 votes in the 2nd Congressional District.

More details to come >>>

(Hartford-AP, Nov. 13, 2006 6:12 AM) _ 32 more towns are expected to complete their re-counts today in the 2nd Congressional District.

Chaplin was the only town to hold a re-count yesterday, and there was no change in the town's original vote tally.

That leaves Democrat Joe Courtney with a 166-vote lead over incumbent Republican Rob Simmons.

Courtney has declared himself the winner in his race, plans to attend orientation sessions starting Monday in Washington, D.C., for new members of Congress.

The Congressional race in the 65-town district was the closest in Connecticut this year and among the tightest nationwide, where Democrats swept several incumbent Republicans out of office.

The re-count was triggered because Courtney's unofficial victory margin of 167 votes was less than half of 1 percent and fewer than two-thousand votes. Since then, over 20 towns have recounted and Simmons has picked up a single vote.

wait for th envelope of absentee ballots (that are mostly democrat) suddenly be discovered. we've seen this trick before in this district.

it'll be an 'oops! looky what I just found!' moment.

Why don't we just declare November 14, 2006 NRD (National Revote Day) and just have a do-over.

Geesh, I sure hope not, but wouldn't be surprised. What about absentee ballots for GOP voters, overseas, military? Rep. Rob Simmons is a good man and is SUCH a better candidate than this poseur Joe Courtney. I'm praying Simmons wins this one...

Sounds good to me, but first voters should be required to read this:

Al-Muhajir praised the American people for handing victory to the Democrats, saying: "They voted for something reasonable in the last elections."

Oh really? That's very interesting... hope they're counting those military absentee votes now...

Joe Courtney may just have to book himself a quick flight from DC back to CT... ;-)

And cancel the order for the drapes and executive massaging chair in his new office.

See #6. I hope those military absentee votes come through for Rep. Rob Simmons...

FR is painfully slow today, and I'm running out of time. I have to sign off for a few hours. Hope I (or someone else) posts a "good news" update to this story later today! :o)

The problem was in Lebanon, where they misread votes from one machine, giving Courtney 363 instead of 263.

Probably a bunch of Shiites rigging the polls in Lebanon...

As of Fri., supposedly, there were perhaps 7-8 House seats too close and thus counting went on. JD Hayworth, now Simmons. Anyone really know if any of these districts actually have completed counts and thus made the final candidate to be?? So, far , I have seen no report on those 7-8 races as to finality.

According to The Courant, there is now only a 66-vote difference, and that continues to shrink.

I've said this before but my brother, currently on active duty in Afghanistan, requested and never received an absentee ballot. He said there were a lot more soldiers who were "forgotten" in this election as well.

Yeah, I saw that as well (in fact, I am one of the posters on that thread). However, I won't exactly trust that until verified by another source.

Simmons is toast. I highly doubt there's another "math error."
