A legal adviser who refused an immigration tribunal judge's request to remove a full face veil has been pulled off the case which sparked the controversy.
Shabnam Mughal was taken off today's rescheduled appeal hearing and replaced by a senior partner at the Coventry-based law firm she works for.
Speaking outside the hearing centre in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, solicitor Abdul Khan from The Law Partnership said the decision had been made in the best interest of the client and was not a reflection on Ms Mughal nor issues surrounding her use of a veil.
He told reporters: "It is not an issue of us backing down. We represent clients and our duty is to make sure that their interests are at the forefront of our mind.
"The decision was made solely in the interests of our client.
"This doesn't reflect in anyway on her (Ms Mughal) ability or on whether she can or cannot wear a veil in court."
Mr Khan, who appeared before the tribunal instead of Ms Mughal, said his colleague would continue to wear her veil during hearings.
Somehow I get the feeling that the incident was more the idea of her Muslim senior partner, who may have wanted to win a precedent. I think she was ordered to wear the veil, to how how far the issue could be pushed
If she want to look like Zorro she should come to court with a sword and a horse.

For the most part I think mooselimb females should wear face masks, damn near all of then look like yassar arafat does now. And he's been dead for a year.

I can't speak for Mrs Ivan, but I find that the muslim issue is currently a big one here in England. The concensus seems to be that most brits are proud to have a country that is open and accepting of others, but only up to a point and that point has now been crossed. The man in the street is happy to accept immigrants who integrate - we never have a moments bother with Hindus, Sikhs, Chinese, Polish etc, etc, just with muslims. Those who don't integrate have chosen to live in the wrong country and though we may be slow to anger, when roused we will defend our beliefs and rights until the end as we have done for millenia. The 1.7m muslims in the UK would do well not to face the wrath of the 92.1% of the UK that is white anglo saxon celt christian if they wish to live here in peace.
