Religion prompted bow and arrow killing, court told [Australia]

The Supreme Court in Victoria has heard an argument over religion was behind the fatal bow and arrow shooting of a man in Seddon last year.

Amer Alihromic, 26, was shot with an arrow at close range in the backyard of a Seddon boarding house in January last year.

Peter Rattya, 41, has pleaded not guilty to his murder. The Supreme Court heard the two men had been fighting about religion when Rattya went to his room and got a bow and arrow.

A witness told the court Mr Alihromic pleaded for his life, before Rattya fired the arrow.

The court heard Rattya then asked a friend to stab him in the leg and to place the knife in the victim's hand, to back up his claim that he had acted in self-defence. The trial continues tomorrow.

This is from an earlier news report:

Peter wasn't happy about the other guy saying there wasn't a God," Ms Campbell said.

Mr Lau said: "The other guy was cursing God and the Bible.

"Peter was defending God and saying that he was our creator."

Ms Campbell said the accused said, "You better apologise to our Lord or I'll f---ing kill you."

Mr Lau and Ms Campbell went inside the property and Ms Campbell said she saw Mr Rattya run to his bedroom, grab a bow and arrow and run outside again.

The court was told she watched Mr Rattya aim the bow at Mr Alihromic.

Ms Campbell said Mr Rattya giggled and laughed after he allegedly shot the other man.

This man was not right in the head.

I really don’t think that God had anything to do with his motives other than giving him an excuse to kill.

So I gather we can expect bow confiscation from down under any day now...
