Like steponallofus said after clinton got elected on promises; "he kept the promises he meant to keep".
A promise from a rat is like leaf in the wind.
No insult to leaves intended.

Hey, numbnuts. First, you obviously didn't leave a lasting impression on me and, second, have the decency to include me if you're going to talk about me.

Speaking of Herself, is there ever any chance of that famous Barrett Report being released? Are the Dems really going to let her skate on to coronation? Are the Repubs? Someone, please, give me a glimmer of hope after this week from hell.
To: ClaireSolt
Exactly. The scenario is entirely different when the Congress got their way in pushing for withdrawal in Viet Nam. The Dems had a vast majority, the MSM had a monopoly, and the anti-war movement was a reality, and not a small, dirty band of old hippies standing on street corners now.
This is all talk, IMO. Peacenik nostalgia....

Actually, I was trying to point out that you said 4-6 weeks when the article said 4-6 months. No biggy.
To: JasonC
Correction. The public voted for 500 congressmen.

They don't have that power now, mystery. They've got George McGOVERN as their consultant, for heaven's sake!. They have the slimmest of majorities, and they have to contend with an alternative media who tells the truth.
That, plus the fact that the 'peace movement' doesn't exist. Americans don't want our kids to die, but they don't want withdrawal without victory either.
The RATS can't win this time.

President can allocate emergency funding from anywhere in the budget to fund the troops.

The democrats had huge majorities in both Houses of Congress during that time. Vietnam war was much more bloodier and much more unpopular than the war in Iraq. President Bush is not Nixon nor Ford, he is stronger than both of them.

Try not to be disheartened chgogal. We get that way too and then one of the wounded soldiers we know will call us up, email or invite us to eat and before you know it, we're bouncing off the walls because of his "can do" way of looking at things. Now this is great, I've got "kids" in their 20s with terrible disfigurements and disabilities comforting an old man of 64! ...and they're the ones grinning!
Well, they teach us a lot don't they? They are a treasure to be around. Like I said on the other post, some have "dive-bombed" a bit in their lives but they also reflect that "can do" attitude by continuing to struggle back on their feet, not give in, like one of them said, they occasionally need a helping hand up, not a handout.
This obviously comes from TRADOC (training doctrine) of assessing the situation, adapting to the conditions and changes and overcoming your enemy, something we need to adapt as well politically.

To: george76
No he did not. He was consumed by Watergate and as I said the democrat had a huge majority in both houses of Congress back then, Vietnam war was much bloodier and much more unpopular than the Iraq war.
