Chaffee and Jeffords were "moderates" like Lowell Weicker was a moderate. Guys with ACU ratings like theirs are not moderate.

Or that Rhode Island is a very liberal state and they knew that this seat could decide the Senate so decided to vote against a guy they liked so as to get the Senate they wanted.
Actually, he's right about that. The exit polls showed him with a 63 percent approval rating. But he had an R after his name in a state that, as far as I can tell, is left of Michael Moore. The fact that he never acted like a Republican couldn't save him.
