Right now the President is at a low ebb and not universally loved. He is willing to cut deals with Democrats to rebuild his popularity and leave a legacy. As for the veto pen, don't count on him finding it. He has used it only once in the past five years in office.

He is NOT cutting deals to rebuild his legacy or popularity. He is cutting deals to WIN in Iraq/WOT. Sheesh.

He has said over and over that is his FIRST priority and he has stuck to it no matter the personal toll. How you can interpret this as some self-centered self-preservation is, frankly, absolutely beyond me.
