He does here ya go. He is in the military right now as a Reservist.

It isn’t only his duties as governor that take Sanford away from home and family. He also is a captain in the Air Force Reserves and must meet regular commitments that take him out of state.
He was commissioned in January 2002 as a first lieutenant in the Reserves, a member of a medical evacuation team based in Charleston. In 2005, he transferred to an Air Force emergency preparedness agency out of Atlanta. The new unit gives him greater flexibility on service
