Mo Lauzier and Barbara Anderson (Citizens for Lmt. Taxation
and Government) were on last night after Howie. Mo told
his oongallagalla joke:

Ted Kennedy was on an Indian reservation out in Wyoming or
something, and he made a bunch of promises in a loudmouthed
speech up there. After each promise, those in the tribe
responded, "oongallagalla!"

"Well, I thought that went well. They love me!," said Ted.

"Yes," replied the Indian chief. "Look over here--we have
some prize bulls to show you. Oh, and be careful you
don't step in the oongallagalla"

Radio bits: John DePetro is trying to get back on WRKO
but station management has refused. Herald: "WRKO-AM has washed its hands of the ratings-starved host and the station has been inundated with talent interested in DePetro’s old job.His discharge was appropriate and justified. We do not intend to reinstate him."

Boston Phoenix reports lib NH politician Deborah "Arnie"
Arnesen is among those who sent a resume and tape to the station. BTW she lost her old job, in part, because she
referred to SUVs as "FUVs", and the station's sponsors--
car dealers--were not pleased...

Oh and I understand Dec 1 could be the date when classical
and country music switch on Boston's FM dial. WCRB 102.5
will move to 99.5, and WKLB 99.5 will go to 102.5...Supposedly listeners to WCRB are being told a good three weeks in advance, so they won't be surprised to tune in one day on 102.5 and wind up hearing "I Love This
Bar", "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk", "Missisippi Girl", or
"Don't Rock the Jukebox, I wanna hear George Jones"
('cause my heart ain't ready/ for the Rolling Stones)
instead...

The following are among the "names" of the petition to
bring DePetro back:

>>263. Gerry Williams John is a worthy heir of my radio legacy. Hire him back. It was no worse than my former sex survey -- that used to get them frothing at the mouth, remember? I was king, until a certain bare-knuckles journalist knee-capped me and stole my gig.

261. Fat, former TV Sports Guy Only I can get away with these kinds of comments, John. Did you hear that voicemail I left for Ryen R? Bwa-ha-ha-ha. I am teflon, cause I have the ratings.

260. Mott Allen Sciller I was always so jealous of your superior skills, JD. But Julie is da boss, after all.

259. Wason Jolfe Sorry, Johnny, I like you but Julie made me do it.

258. Cowie Harr I always admired your work, Johnny

"His discharge was appropriate and justified. We do not intend to reinstate him." (that was from part of a statement by
station management and was not part of the comment above it
by the article's writer! :)

Democratic legislators rip up the state constitution and thumb their nose at the law, and 70% of the populace of this state don't give a d***! Nothing will happen about this.

HASTA LA VICTORIA! From a news item posted on Howie's site:

The man charged with driving drunk and causing the accident that killed two N.C. State University students and a 16-year-old outside Sanford last month is in the United States illegally and may be prosecuted for carrying fraudulent identification, an immigration official said.

Pastor Rios Sanchez, 55, is being held in the Lee County jail on $75,000 bail and a 48-hour immigration detainer after being charged with three counts of involuntary manslaughter and other offenses related to the head-on collision Oct. 27, according to law enforcement.

Helen Meghan Hughes, 22, and Jennifer Elaine Carter, 18, were pronounced dead at the scene. Hughes' stepbrother, Benjamin Richard Leonard, 16, also was in the wreck and later died at the hospital, N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper K.T. Hill said last month.

Though Sanchez had a residency card, investigators say they now believe it was a fake, said Tom O'Connell, the resident agent in charge for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

O'Connell said Sanchez was from the Mexican state of Guerrero and that immigration officials don't believe he has ever legally been in the United States.

The U.S. attorney could decide to press additional charges against Sanchez for possessing counterfeit immigration papers, O'Connell said.

ICE placed an immigration detainer on Sanchez so that if he posts bond or otherwise faces release, immigration officials would have 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays, to decide whether to take him into federal custody and start immigration proceedings.

Did you hear Mitt? It sounds like he's trying to explore what options he may have . . . though he doesn't seem to have many. Of course, the fact that he's a lame duck doesn't help. I really, really wish he had run for reelection -- I'm not that crazy about him, but he's far better than the alternative.

Hardly the first time they've done it . . . and how many of them ran unopposed? I don't know the percentage, but I bet it's huge. And who's going to oppose them? The MA Republican Party is apparently moribund -- the Greens fielded more statewide candidates.

Yep! I didn't hear who was first, but Gerry Ford came in second. Now Phyllis Diller "if she's still alive."

The ever-popular Fidel Castro is third!

I'm glad Boston won't lose the classical station. WCRB is really a great station. Any idea if they lost staff due to the move?

Missed a few -- but: Lady Bird, Ariel Sharon, Mickey Rooney, Rob't Byrd (he's walking with double canes now?), Hugh Heffner, Mike Wallace (at 87 - instead of Andy Rooney, who's 88), Charlton Heston, Jack LaLanne. That's that segment1

I don't know if they (WCRB) have lost any staff but they gain a new owner--Nassau Broadcasting which has several stations in New England (like classic rock "The Fox" up in VT and "Frank FM"s
in Nashua NH, Barre VT and Cape Cod). Nassau runs classical
stations like WBQQ FM 97.3 in Kennebunkport, ME. They also
have classic rock and country stations in NH.

Far as I know no staff reductions but who knows.

From the Globe in August: "Nassau Broadcasting , is already working on plans to expand the station into a national classical network, according to Nassau's president and chief executive officer , Louis F. Mercatanti .
The sale, a two-part transaction that involves Charles River Broadcasting selling WCRB (102.5 FM) to Greater Media, and then Greater Media selling the WCRB name, format, and a different frequency, 99.5 FM, to Nassau, looks to be completed in November. At that point, WCRB will move from its current frequency to 99.5 FM. After that, Mercatanti says, the sky is the limit.

``The product is so good at WCRB, it's got a national reputation," says Mercatanti, whose company owns 53 stations in New England, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

soul singer Gerald Levert will not be down for breakfast

"NEW YORK --Gerald Levert, the fiery singer of passionate R&B love songs and the son of O'Jays singer Eddie Levert, died on Friday. He was 40. His label, Atlantic Records, confirmed that Levert died at his home in Cleveland, Ohio....Gerald Levert's voice (was) powerful and soulful, almost a carbon copy of his father's"
