J.D. Hayworth is a Republican in a heavily Democrat district.

BTW, that race is not over yet.

"Uh no it doesn't, but those 15 seats where immigration was a main issue, and the immigration chest thumpers only winning 2, shows that chest thumping does not work."

What it showed me is that the RNC did nothing to help these candidates and in many cases actively worked aganst them.

But of course we all knew that didn't we, because the President has been saying the same thing since 2000.

Which is why this ridiculous "punishment" scheme that took out the firewall in the House was completely stupid, not to mention the surrender in Iraq it created.

God help us, when Conservative and Republican voters can no longer be counted on to think rationally instead of emotionally.

According to all opinion polls I see, which includes cross sections of every ethnic group among respondents, Americans overwhelmingly want to end illegal immigration and curtail legal immigration.

Yes, most polls found that Americans want strong border controls and strong enforcement. But what the Republicans in the House failed to see was that in almost every poll going back to late last year, most Americans wanted some type of a guest worker program and/or legalization for some subset of the illegals already here.

We had a great opportunity for a comprehensive bill if the House Republicans would have agreed to meet in conference. The Senate would have had to give up some of the more liberal items in their bill, and the House would have had to give up some of their tougher measures. But in the end we would have had two things: A comprehensive bill that most Americans would have accepted, and recognition by the Hispanic community that the Republicans were responsible for the law.

Now, a comprehensive bill will be passed by Democrats that will accomplish two things: A law that will exclude much if not most of what the House bill had, and a Hispanic community that will credit Democrats for the new law. Yes, the Republicans can filibuster it, and that will just drive more Hispanics toward the Democrats.

Did you miss my "Most, not all statement"? In some cases it was just down right anti-Republican votes. Santorium here in PA and Steele and Ehrlich in MD.

Also I think I read somewhere on here that his democratic opponent was using an even more extreme anti-amnesty platform, that and the fact that his opponent was running as a conservative.

That's BS, what you mean is really MEXICANS right? although probably true where the Mexican population is large but certainly not on the entire country...You are giving the wrong impression, Hispanics is too general of a term. I am Hispanic and not from Mexico, although I have known many Mexican friends, mostly legal but some illegals too. I am a U.S. Citizen.

What I (we) the other "Hispanics," want is for the U.S. to take control of the borders FIRST, because this is essential step for SECURITY first! (we all agree the world is changing fast... and we can already see unrest in many Latin Countries going to the Left... get the idea?), the BORDERS MUST BE SECURED FIRST and all points of entry of course. Once that is done then the U.S. should decide whom WE WANT in this country instead of the illegals telling us what we should do (UTTELRY RIDICULOUS). I also think it's unfair to many people in the world who been waiting their turn to come here for years... why should lawbreakers get a brake, just because the are "ordering us? . At the same time - AGAIN, ONCE THE BORDERS ARE SUCURED - we can then pay attention to the illegals already here and all ideas are open for examination... even granting many permanent residence, or temporary worker status, etc, but always conscious that this is the LAST TIME we'll do this... sort an EMERGENCY situation that we must deal with now. if the U.S. is going to have any kind of credible/workable Immigration policy... (and security of course!)

So the way we buy off the relatively small block of Hispanic voters in this country is to allow mass illegal immigration?

They don't speak for me. http://www.dontspeakforme.org

We have some of the dumbest voters in the world.

As the saying goes: "None of us is as dumb as all of us..."

" God help us, when Conservative and Republican voters can no longer be counted on to think rationally instead of emotionally."

I agree completely. I was as disgusted as anyone but still voted straight R for the first time because I didn't want what we now have! I wish more would have done the same.....

They know nothing of our history nor do they care

And many Pubs speak about America as though it is nothing but a piece of real estate, and a place to get jobs. In that respect both groups do share something in common.

The nation as we know it now is literally on the line!

We must remind ourselves of this fact every day, and with every day act to save it.

The AP has a language manual which is the "thought crime" book.

The AP does not approve articles which call homosexuals anything but "gay".

The AP does not approve articles which have "pro-abortion" instead of "pro-choice"

the list goes on and on.

Apparently there is no online access to the AP language guide!!!!!! They don't want the new media to disect it.

Everybody with a pet peeve says that peeve "doomed" the GOP. Personally I think it was a few million stupid voters who watch too much TV.

"By eight-to-one, Americans think it is unfair to grant rights to illegal immigrants while thousands of people wait each year to come to the United States legally. Fully eighty-six percent of Republicans think it is unfair, as do seventy-seven percent of Democrats."
http://www.numbersusa.com/interests/publicop.html#amnesty

So what if the will of the American public is ignored, while our experiment in a republican democracy ("men and women are capable of governing themselves") fails?
The important thing is that the Democrats get a permanent majority while GOP big-money donors get an unlimited supply of cheap, docile labor.

My husband is Hispanic. He's a Republican who was a Democrat in early adulthood. He changed because of issues (especially military - he was in the Air Force under Carter and saw the kind of "support" Democrats have for the military). The number one rule for Republicans in making inroads with Hispanics is: DON'T PANDER. Especially, don't try to top liberals doing the things they think Hispanics want (bilingual this and that, open borders, affirmative action and all that nonsense). It just comes off as insincere coming from Republicans, it is so ingrained in them that that's the Democrat position.

Stick to issues important to any American - security, lower taxes, rewarding hard work, social issues. Hispanics hate abortion and same sex marriage, but the Demos have such a stronghold on them because of the "everyone knows the Dems are the party of the little guy" lie.

We need more face time from the Republicans that are minorities. I pray Michael Steele accepts the RNC chairmanship. We need more Republican Hispanics out there as well. Don't sell out conservative principles, period.

I can't say it enough: DON'T PANDER!!!

By the way, I'm thinking of writing an article on the experiences of minorities who changed from being Democrats to being Republicans. They usually have interesting, intelligent reasons for switching. I think it would be inspiring for all Republicans to hear these stories.
