WASHINGTON (CNN) -- On the same day President Bush promised a new bipartisan Washington, he began efforts to get two of his most controversial decisions approved before the Democrats take over Congress.

Bush on Thursday submitted the nomination of John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, and said he would like to move forward on legislation to authorize the National Security Agency's domestic surveillance program.

On another thread it was mentioned that the new Democrat House makeup could cause Nancy Pelosi some problems. The same could be said for the Senate and Harry Reid.

While Governor of Texas Bush had a great deal of success rounding up conservative/moderate Dems and putting them with Republicans to get some things done.

The Dems who want to claim that Bush's presidency is over don't know George Bush.

Bolton wasn't an issue in the elections.

The Democrats who won those seats ran as anti abortion, pro gun conservatives.

I think conservatives are over stating this....how many real conservative Dims won? Webb is about all I can name.

The primary reason that the Dims don't want Bolton representing the USA in the UN is because they want the USA to sign onto the UN plan to ban small arms for ordinary citizens everywhere in the world.

This would circumvent the US Constitution including the Bill of Rights (Esp. the 2nd amendment) and finally result in the "One World Order" (I.E. One World Dictatorship), which is precisely the agenda of the Democratic party.

Bolton has been a champion for gun rights and has told Kofi Annan and the rest of the UN to stick that idea where the sun don't shine!

They need to remove Chafee from the committee. That will free up the nomination. Or go to the floor without a recommendation.

"Well, we can credit him for doing one thing right today. Now we'll see if the condemned GOP majority will summon the balls to follow through. My money says they won't."

Agreed. Let's face it, the GOP Congress is more p*ssed at GWB than the Dims are.

Bolton wasn't an issue in the elections.

Again with the logic. What's up with that? In the eyes of our new leaders, Bolton is one of them. Were it even remotely possible, you'd see every appointed official right down to the town dogcatcher deposed, simply because they were picked by Bush.

The Democrats who won those seats ran as anti abortion, pro gun conservatives.

And they accomplished their goal, they got elected. They now stand arm-in-arm with those who will actively seek to confiscate our guns, force us to bankroll the UN, suck up to Islamic terrorists, look to the ACLU for legal advice, and well, booger things up. Hopefully, if there are any resonable dems in the group, they might want to raise their voices amongst the braying.

Wonder if he can do another absentee appointment?

He could, but it would expire as soon as Congress reconvenes in early January.

Democrats bristle at Bush's push to confirm Bolton

I doubt most Dems know what "bristle" means. They're just for-sure dumb, which is why the idiot half of America always votes for them.

The UN is such a loser!

Bolton is great at laying down the smack on libs. There must be some other place that Bush could put him where he could annoy more in the quiche coalition.

I like Tony Snow, but I'd pay money to see Bolton appointed as Bush's new press secretary.

I certainly hope it's Biden who does the slamming.

He deserves a good smackdown from Bolton.

Perhaps the Dems will replace Bolton with one of the idiot twins Joe Biden or Ted Turner.

We should send Kucinich, bent over, to the UN with his pants down by his ankles.
