That's exactly what happened in Montana, where the Libertarian received around 10,000 votes and Burns lost by around 3000 votes.

Yet some Dems are screaming MANDATE?

Actually if they make enough votes to have swung the election, they consider that a major victory. They say this and write about it.

Their highest ambition is to be spoilers. For either party.
