They did in the primary and the RNC and powers that be pushed Chafee, just like Specter in PA last time around. Why is the RNC picking the most UnRepublicans they can find. They may be identified a R in the NorthEast, but not anywhere else.

Yeah a Primary Challenger the Party machine destroyed to "save Chafes seat" for us.

Possible the most politically incompetent move I ever saw. Use money and resources to prop up a candidate who never votes with you just cause he was an incumbent.

As a matter of fact there was a good choice. The Mayor of Cranston RI ran agains missing linc, in the primaries. My dad still lieves in RIm and said this guy did a terrific job restraining spending and standing up to the public employee's unions in the city. The RNC threw support and bucks to Chaffee and he eeked out a win. Too bad the other guy was unlike missing linc a republican.

That's kind of the problem. All options in RI were bad. I can't say that the 'vote for him, he might caucus with us' crowd was totally wrong, but I can't say they were right either. If we nominated Laffey, we lose. If we nominate Chafee, we probably lose, and even if we don't, we might not get anything.

Whatever happened to Lincoln Almond anyway? Why didn't he ever run for anything else. He seemed like a decent guy. He'd probably be to my left, but he wouldn't be as feckless and unreliable as Chafee.
