The Republicans lost big. I'm a Republican -- and yet I'm not devastated. For the first time, the loss doesn't feel personal. Why?
Because from President Bush on down, no one in the party seems to touch us the way some Republicans previously did. Many haven't gone out on a limb, in our behalf, to champion our causes. Many didn't respond to our offers of help.
Many of us who take the issues seriously were sickened every time Beltway Republicans and RNC leaders referred to those Democrats -- who mock us, and our country, and care more about terrorist "rights" than the safety of our families -- as "our friends" across the aisle.
It's hard to feel personal about elected officials who seem incapable of enunciating what I believe and what I stand for. If they understood what we hold dear and why -- who we are -- they would be able to express it themselves. Unless, of course, they really don't feel it. They don't seem to be one of us.
Fire begets fire. But this crop of Republicans seems unwilling daily to fight hard and say what has to be said. No passion. They leave us cold. What they do possess is loads of timidity and a pre-occupation with appearing "reasonable" -- Washington-like. Its our party but not our guys."
Never in my lifetime has the party been so bereft of individuals to whom one can feel a personal bond, an affection, a long-distance connection. Never before has the party been so comprised of colorless, political robots. The party has no personality. It has become a shell without a core, a hodge-podge without a germinating seed.
It has become a party of slogans, such as "stay the course" and No Child Left Behind instead of one with guts and patriotic heart. It is too globalist and Madison Avenue and not enough Main Street. They took our loyalty and belief in them for granted, giving themselves permission to prolong, much too long, Iraqi nation- building with American lives and dollars. Assured of our patience, they chose easy-way-out political-correctness.They didn't respect us -- until election eve.
They seemed so unrecognizable -- these pre 1980-like Republicans, as often does their President whose every other sentence starts with "compassion" as well as references that are alien to this life-long conservative. I often cringe.
It's a group who won't stand up for their own. The minute the media make a charge against a Republican colleague or supporter, they've shown they'd rather appease the media than stand by a brother. This is not an endearing quality. Nor is it manly. All along weve wondered: Would they stand up for us?
While we often find the party an ideological home in which to hang a hat, it seems to have lost the ability to touch us emotionally. Reagan did, as did Bobbie for the Democrats. Only that can explain why millions of die-hard conservatives are this afternoon, upon the heels of this weeks defeat, able to make reservations tonight for a dinner. We feel anxious about the country's possible new direction, but we aren't in mourning for friends. Too bad, unlike in the past, the loss doesnt seem personal.
Right on, I'll be damned if I'm going to go into depression, go see a therapist, and go on Prozac because of the election like record numbers of DemonRats did when Bush won in '04.
We've got two here, NC House Speaker Jim Black, a Democrat tainted by years of scandal, leads his challenger by seven votes. And, Robin Hayes, Republican US House Representative from district 8, leads his challenger by less than 300. Neither have been conceded.
Or maybe the author is drinking the media koolaid. lol
Oh really?
They're called primaries. Learn how to use em. ;)
Yep, time to dust off and be done with the moaning. If the posters here believe what they are saying about wanting conservative representation, they will start this minute to seek suitable candidates to run in the next primary. Also, there isn't any one segment of the Republican party that can win national elections without forming coalitions with others in the party. I submit that the key voting blocks that we seem to have alienated are as much the problem as the solution. They seem to think that somehow they are doing the GOP a favor by voting Republican. They will have to compromise as they routinely do in other aspects of life if they want to gain anything meaningful politically in whatever party they choose to dock. The one really big obstacle for us to overcome is the media pimping for the RATS. If we cannot find a way to circumvent their 24/7 campaigning for them our party will continue to campaign at a serious disadvantage.
Nothing personal against our losers but Allen, Burns, DeWine and especially W....had it coming they symbolized the era of "big government conservatism" or "compassionate conservatism" or whatever you want to call it and now it is now as dead as Custer's bugler...and I am happy about that. It was killing us as a movement and our country as a whole. Our forward deficits went from 20 trillion to 40 trillion in just 4 years. This wipe-out needed to be done...better now then 08.
Denny Hastert will now be replaced by Pence ....Hallelujah!
And if any presidential candidate for the Repub nominee even talks about "comprehensive immigration policy" without a fence being built will be toast without a plate.
Really.
What sucks is that because people like this Spero had hurt feelings, Santorun and Steele, among others, were brought down.
But that's what we've got, with few exceptions. When will Republicans learn that surrender to Democrats is not a strategy? Not any time soon, I'd wager. Disgusting.
I'm hoping the 'rats go after the Bill of Rights again and ban firearms, magazine, and ammo...then maybe the real conservatives will step up again and take back the House and Senate.
God only requires His people be obedient. Not that I disagree with you!
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
Because we'll fight'em till hell freezes over, and then we'll fight on ice.
One thing about Reagan that I hated at the time but I love now is how he utterly did not care what the press said about him. He laughed at them. He treated them with good natured contempt. I expect he'd gotten over reading the notices long before, in his acting days.
