I voted a straight Republican ticket, and made sure everyone that I knew did too.

And when all the dust cleared, I felt EXACTLY like the guy who wrote this piece.

I like GW a lot as a man. My earliest memories include working on a parade float for his dad's campaign for Congress, 40 years ago.

But the "uniter, not a divider" strategy never had a quid-pro-quo with the opposition. Seeing judicial nominees twist for YEARS should have been a warning sign to us all.

GW just plain lacks the killer instinct that politics in 21st Century America demands. A decent man, whom I voted for twice. But I'm afraid he'll go down as a failed wartime leader, because he just can't get beyond the "nice" factor to deal with the "domestic" part of the "enemies foreign and domestic".

Right on, I'll be damned if I'm going to go into depression, go see a therapist, and go on Prozac because of the election like record numbers of DemonRats did when Bush won in '04.

We've got two here, NC House Speaker Jim Black, a Democrat tainted by years of scandal, leads his challenger by seven votes. And, Robin Hayes, Republican US House Representative from district 8, leads his challenger by less than 300. Neither have been conceded.

Yep, time to dust off and be done with the moaning. If the posters here believe what they are saying about wanting conservative representation, they will start this minute to seek suitable candidates to run in the next primary. Also, there isn't any one segment of the Republican party that can win national elections without forming coalitions with others in the party. I submit that the key voting blocks that we seem to have alienated are as much the problem as the solution. They seem to think that somehow they are doing the GOP a favor by voting Republican. They will have to compromise as they routinely do in other aspects of life if they want to gain anything meaningful politically in whatever party they choose to dock. The one really big obstacle for us to overcome is the media pimping for the RATS. If we cannot find a way to circumvent their 24/7 campaigning for them our party will continue to campaign at a serious disadvantage.

Nothing personal against our losers but Allen, Burns, DeWine and especially W....had it coming they symbolized the era of "big government conservatism" or "compassionate conservatism" or whatever you want to call it and now it is now as dead as Custer's bugler...and I am happy about that. It was killing us as a movement and our country as a whole. Our forward deficits went from 20 trillion to 40 trillion in just 4 years. This wipe-out needed to be done...better now then 08.

Denny Hastert will now be replaced by Pence ....Hallelujah!

And if any presidential candidate for the Repub nominee even talks about "comprehensive immigration policy" without a fence being built will be toast without a plate.

I don't ever recall an election where so many races were so tight. Oh sure, there's always one or two somewhere that are hanging by a chad, but nothing like this.

Just imagine the landslide the Republicans could have had if they had been even the slightest willing to govern the way we sent them there to govern!

It really sickens me how nice the Dems are being now that they've gotten their power back to some extent. After all the vitriol, poison, lies, etc. they've spewed for 12 years now, all the obstructionism they've practiced, and now they come smiling to the table like they've been the best friends we've ever had.

I agree with Michael Medved, there has got to be some way to regulate who can be on the ballot as a third, or fourth, or etc. party. I don't want to deny anyone their right to run for office, but there's got to be a way to keep them from doing it just to play the spoiler.

Maybe the answer would be that if a candidate didn't get a certain precentage of the votes cast then that candidate vote's would be split evenly among the other candidates. Just a though.

What sucks is that because people like this Spero had hurt feelings, Santorun and Steele, among others, were brought down.

Gutless RINOs are exactly what the party doesn't need.

But that's what we've got, with few exceptions. When will Republicans learn that surrender to Democrats is not a strategy? Not any time soon, I'd wager. Disgusting.

I'm hoping the 'rats go after the Bill of Rights again and ban firearms, magazine, and ammo...then maybe the real conservatives will step up again and take back the House and Senate.

God will not require/force us to be obedient if we hard-heartedly choose not to be.

God only requires His people be obedient. Not that I disagree with you!

"It's a group who won't stand up for their own. The minute the media make a charge against a Republican colleague or supporter, they've shown they'd rather appease the media than stand by a brother. This is not an endearing quality. Nor is it manly. All along we’ve wondered: Would they stand up for us?"

What can I say? This is the George Bush girlie man party of "reaching out to the other side". The Dems just cut off the hand and in '08 they will go for the head. But like you, I can't care much. It's obvious they don't have a clue as to how far disconnected they are when words like "a cold slap on the head" and "a thumping" are used.

I almost feel sorry they are so disconnected, but I have my own problems figuring out hold global warming legislation and increased taxes are going to disrupt my life.

You almost have to ask yourself "what were they thinking?"

To tell the truth, I felt quite surprised Wednesday morning. I didn't feel devastated at all. I didn't really think the Republicans being gone from Congress changed anything. Not that they cared about conservative issues. I don't feel in the least upset over how it went down.

No, the next Assault Weapons Ban (probably will be called the "Child Protection Act of 2007"; who doesn't want to protect children?!!!) will be far more sweeping, and permanent. There will be language in there that any firearm "of a military configuration", may be banned at the discretion of the AG. Since all bolt-action hunting rifles in the US are based on the military model 1898 Mauser, you can kiss them all goodbye if a Democrat takes the WH in '08.

The stay-at-home-conservatives and other turncoats have just about delivered the WH to Hillary. It will take a Herculean effort to overcome a now confident Democrat Party and their MSM lapdogs. Otherwise you will need a super-majority in the House and Senate to overturn Hillary's veto of the new AW ban repeal.

Ain't gonna happen.

One thing about Reagan that I hated at the time but I love now is how he utterly did not care what the press said about him. He laughed at them. He treated them with good natured contempt. I expect he'd gotten over reading the notices long before, in his acting days.
