Replace Chafee on the committee. Then push through committee and onto the floor for a straight up or down vote.

"The American people have spoken out against the president's agenda on a number of fronts, and presumably one of those is on foreign policy," Chafee said. "And at this late stage in my term, I'm not going to endorse something the American people have spoke out against."

It used to be the President would get his nominees at least a vote and typically a 'yes' from most members. Have things completely flipped now? Six Senate seats changing hands in a fraction of the US population suddenly trumps a sitting President who received over 62 million votes and over 50% of the popular vote?

Has Chafee gone mad? Bench him immediately, put him on the sidelines, and let's have a debate over the UN's role over US policy IMMEDIATELY. Goodness. Will the GOP get some balls please?

I hate the Guestworker program, and I have spoken out against it many times, but never let the truth get in the way of a good old, tired, moronic insult.

Soooo....... to you and your two buddies here......... I really have to go. Sorry to disappoint you by leaving, but the Three Stooges are on TV, and at least they're funny...... ;)

(But maybe you should get some help for that Federalist guy.....he's got issues with reality).

President Bush........a man of absolute integrity. LEARN from him.

I just assume at this point in time ask the Rats who they want, put them in place and when NK and Iran gets nukes or more nukes chastise the choice in public and make sure everyone knows they were Democrat's choice.

It will be kind of hard to keep the troops there with zero funding from Congress. Remember, they control the purse-strings. The way I see it, Bush is throwing everybody he can under the bus to try to keep some troops there the next 2 years. That's the best we can hope for now, and I'm not hopeful the 'RATs will let him have even that.

As for universal health care, mark my words. It is coming. Hell, we're already 2/3rds there with the Medicare prescription drug program.

President Bush........a man of absolute integrity. LEARN from him.

I know he has integrity. That's why he's giddy about the guest worker program he wants being closer to a reality. I also have integrity. That's why I criticize his stance on this while still voting for him and supporting him.

Now that you mention it, only one of us has expressed dissatisfaction with the guest worker program while still professing blind support for Bush. Is that integrity? Or is it blind loyalty? A think the latter, but you may disagree.

This source says:

How Long Does a Recess Appointment Last?

A recess appointment expires at the end of the Senate’s next session or when an individual (either the recess appointee or someone else) is nominated, confirmed, and permanently appointed to the position, whichever occurs first.

In practice, this means that a recess appointment may last for up to nearly two years.

If the President makes a recess appointment between sessions or between Congresses, that appointment will expire at the end of the following session.

If he makes the appointment during a recess in the middle of a session, that appointment also will expire at the end of the following session.

In this case, the duration of the appointment will include the balance of the session in progress plus the full length of the session that follows.

Indeed. Rumsfeld realized his ability to effectively run the war was seriously compromised, and did the right thing.
