You don't think taking the judges as an issue off the table, after it worked so well in '04, didn't hurt us just a little bit?

I bet it's more like 99%. My 84 year old grandfather came in to my house yesterday cheering about the Dem victory - ribbing me - if you will. In the next breath, he started complaining about illegal immigrants. I kid you not. Trying to "inform" him is like beating your head against a brick wall. He is not the only one.

Dewine is still a member of the current Senate. Chafee too.

Sorry I am not kidding. It was just announced on the local radio staion. Chaffee thinks he is being principled when in reality he is just " stuck on stupid"

Bush doesn't need Chaffee. Dems are in on this deal

Biden is going around telling the media that the Bolton nomination is dead.

Democratic Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, the expected chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in a Democrat-led Senate, said on Wednesday he thought Bolton's nomination was "going nowhere."

"I never saw a real enthusiasm on the Republican side to begin with. There's none on our side," Biden said.

Either Biden didn't get the memo on the deal or the deal is with Chafee.

Will be an interesting vote. Even if the deal was with the Dems, Chafee has to take his procedural hold off Bolton for the nomination to go to a vote. If Chafee ends up with a cushy government job, we will all know how he got it.

See post #167. Chafee is not in on this one.

Let the filibustering and acrimony begin. Then when the the switchover happens in January, the precedent will be there.

Good news considering there was talk of the Dhims rejecting Bolton. Full speed ahead.

Confirmation of two conservative justices was a tremendous achievement. McCain's "deal" may have even helped this happen. McCain did not cost us the Senate. And in NO way stopped the GOP from campaigning on the need for more. It had ZERO to do with the election.

There are MILLIONS just like that. They can't come to a valid conclusion if their lives depended upon it and they DO.

I don't think they'll go nuclear. Could haunt them in the future when we are a minority with a RAT president.

Rather, I think the WH is playing a good game of brinksmanship... let the RATS filibuster and make fools of themselves, split their caucus right down the middle, wear down their energy, and let buyer's remorse set in with middle America.

Then, even if they successfully kill the Bolton confirmation, he can be recess appointed AND receive a salary if he is appointed to another Exec branch job concurrently that does not require Senate approval. Not ideal, but a means to an end.

If Chafee still does his RINO routine, force it to the floor without the comittee's approval.

I'd say not only send his appointment to the floor, but let him go ahead and put some of the pontificators in their places when he's questioned by the Senate.

Bolton has the wit and the knowledge to turn the questions of a lot of these pompous fools back on themselves. After he knocks a couple of them down to size, the rest will be nervous about playing their usual games.

Then when they try and pontificate about Bolton on the floor, one of the senators needs to keep suggesting that they bring Bolton back to address the issue.

Then if it looks like he won't get confirmed, they should leak that he's thinking about running for President. That should get some of the Presidential hopefuls to vote for him simply because they don't want to face him on the campaign trail.

If he doesn't get confirmed after that, he should run for President. Even if he can't win the Primary, it sure would make the race interesting.
