Europe to be in loop on foreign policy: Kennedy

ROME (Reuters) - Europe will be kept more in the loop about U.S. foreign policy after mid-term elections which swept away Republican control of Congress, senior Democratic party member Senator Edward Kennedy said on Thursday.

Kennedy, the Democratic senator for Massachusetts and the younger brother of former President John F. Kennedy, said his party's newly won control of the U.S. House of Representatives would bring a desire for greater involvement.

"There is a new game in the United States now," he told reporters after meeting Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi.

"There is a new desire to have more involvement, where the Democrats will be participating in foreign policy...to a much greater extent. I think we have ideas that are constructive and positive," he said in Rome.

Kennedy was asked if the Democrats' mid-term election victory would lead to better dialogue between the United States and European countries, some of whom felt excluded from decisions regarding the war in Iraq.

"I think we are dealing with the situation. I was personally opposed to the war but that was yesterday," he said. "I think that what we are trying to do now is (decide) how we proceed now. That's really the challenge."

Asked if Europe would be kept more in the foreign policy loop than in the past, he said: "Absolutely."

Kennedy is in Italy to attend 40th anniversary commemorations of the 1966 floods that devastated parts of the city of Florence and led to an international effort to save precious works of art and manuscripts.

The Congress does not control foreign policy. Someone should enlighten Kennedy that Bush is still president.

To the Republicans who stayed home on Tuesday I say "Damn you! Damn you to hell. You've killed us all."

I agree. Your single issue, what ever it may have been, has cost us all. It will be years for us to make any headway. We can kiss probably 2 court justices goodbye too.

Well...since Kennedy was working with the Russians AGAINST Reagan....I am sure he DOES want Europe more in the loop.

In fact, I will be surprised if he doesn't want the US to have to take order from the EU..../s

The Republicans ran lousy campaigns. Quit laying it all at the voters feet.

It's sad to think some stayed home. It cost us dearly. My Republican Indiana Congressmen/women and Senators could have stolen money from me and I STILL would have voted Republican! The alternative is not acceptable. There's no way in hell I would have stayed at home or voted Democrat!

One of the sickening things is that this is also an admission that they have no idea what to do.

They shoved this partisan crap down the throats of their constituents without giving a thought to what they would do should they win.

These admissions should be on every media outlet there is, But of course we know it wont be.

I love how the Europeans are so thrilled about the democrat revolution in America. I guess that is why they dumped the dollar and purchased gold all day today. A real show of faith in the democrats, right.

It would be a touch more accurate to show Kennedy where Chirac stands and Bush where Kennedy kneels, because this president in the next two years is going to show conservatives how he can kowtow.

That's what I have been wondering. Has Pelosi taken over the White House also? Last time I checked, Bush was the current President elected by the people in 2004. Are the DEMS confused and think this was a Presidential election maybe they just don't know better?

Just the thought of that makes me sick.

I wanted to find him in bondage gear, but couldn't bear sifting through all the homo images so grabbed the first one I found.

Basically, he announced that the new Congress will be the UN's & Europe's wussies.

Which European nations came out after their elections and said that they will consult with the USA for decisions?

Here we go, the Demagogues like Teddy the Swimmer are already off conducting their own personal version of foreign policy.

Yeah, like Jimmy Carter, the International Ambassador and Emissary of the Whole World on Free and Fair Democratic Elections.

what we are trying to do now is (decide) how we proceed now

They perceive they've been given a carte blanche mandate--whatever they yet decide to do.

How stupid they are! They have no respect for the Constitution. I imagine the USSC could still find five justices who would see it the way of the clearly-spelled out Constitution. Then again, we've been wrong on that score before.

The Executive Branch is responsible for foreign policy, with treaties to be ratified by the Senate.

This isn't the first time that blubber arsed traitor has done this . the First was when Yuri Andropov became head of the communist Soviet Union .

Andropov a general in the KGB was informed thru go betweens that Kennedy & the Democrats would gladly constrain the Reagan attempts to win the cold war all that Andropov had to do is not make waves,or at least not to big of waves.

Old Europe or New Europe, Ted? New Europe is not only "in the loop", but on our side, Swimmer Boy.

Folks, this is just the beginning. Things are going to get a whole lot worse with the Democrats in power in Congress. Nancy Pelosi said, before she went into hiding about 3 weeks before the election, that the Congress should have EQUAL power witht the White House. All I can say is that America is going to pay dearly for putting the Democrats back in power.
