Angelides managed to eke out a victory only among high school dropouts.

Put that on your Resume.

Did the Republicans win any other statewide race in CA?

Schwarzneggar is no centrist.

He's a fiscal liberal. He'd be welcome for lunch with the Nelson Rockefellar klan.

A win for centrism?? No it wasn't. It was a loss for extreme liberalism and more radical confiscatory taxation.

Bull.

If "Centrism" was the key, Chaffee, Kean, and DeWine would have won.

This catastrophe wasn't about political philosophy - it was about perceived corruption in Congress, incredible ineptitude by the Republicans in campaigning, and the failure of the American public to demonstrate the same kind of courage that even the Spaniards exhibited. After all, it took a train bomb on Spanish soil to sour them on the war. Here in the U.S. we were spared even that.

It looks like more pain is in store for your state.

I voted for Arnold. Today, I wish now that I had not! In order for Conservative Republicans to ever have a chance we are going to have to go through the losses like we went through on Tuesday I guess...American Christians, we must UNITE....

A liberal Republican can win in California - if he's a celebrity.

It seems to me that the "Center" has moved pretty far "Left" these days.

Centrism works in liberal states provided the candidate is superficially appealing and doesn't do something overwhelmingly stupid. Angelides has negative charisma, he never had a chance. Also, you have to bribe all of the special interests, but not so much that people notice (see Gray Davis).

"I seem to smell the stench of appeasement in the air."

-Margaret Thatcher

Centrism never would have gotten rid of slavery in America. They tried compromises, and they didn't work.

Centrism would not have won World War Two.

Centrism would not have extended the franchise to all adult Americans.

Centrism would not have founded Christianity.

Centrism would not have built America.

Centrism is an inability to lead and inspire.

Phew. Feel better now.

Rhetorical: How can a win for centerism be called a win OR loss?

That's like saying a "win for maybe".

Although this is not a statewide victory, I'm happy to report a landslide win for a conservative mayor in our very liberal enclave of Chula Vista, the second largest city in San Diego County.

Cheryl Cox beat incumbent, corrupt Steve Padilla with her no nonsense Margaret Thatcheresque campaign, displaying the incredible good will she has garnered both toward, and from, this city for many years.

This is HUGE for us.

Arnold engineered his 'victory' by keeping his distance from his party and it's slate, by promoting ballot initiatives likely to garner union and Democrat support, and (of prime importance) being an easy choice for the least qualified voters in the nation. Apologies to my friends and neighbors here in the Golden State but the facts speak for themselves.

Can someone explain what CENTRISM entails ?

What does a centrist propose for the following issues :

1) Terrorism and Homeland Security
2) Taxes
3) Energy
4) The environment
5) Education
6) Social Security
7) Medicare
8) Abortion
9) Stem Cell Research
10)Gay Marriage

Let's start with the above first. What exactly does it mean to straddle the center and why isn't Bush considered one and why is Arnold considered one ?

Anyone who reads into Rinolds win that there was some shift is insane. Angelides was the most pathetic candidate the RATS could have put up. The real message from the election is campaigning on raisng taxes for everything imaginable is Losing tactic. I think Rinold is just a sock puppet for Ted Kennedy.
