Allen screwed the pooch on this one. He showed disdain when he should have shown grace toward a representative of the opposition (not deference, just grace) . He showed the same arrogance and disregard for courtesy that we accused the dems of having. Yes, the MSM blew it up, but he gave them the detonator. He should have known that any hint of racism would be fodder for them. He gave the GOP and Virginia a black eye with this incident, and it has lost us the Senate. Time for him to retire.

This was like a mirror image of the Kerry statement...a phrase that was clearly meant to be insulting, but not exactly clear just how. In each case the most straightforward interpretation played up preconceptions of each candidate in the worst way.

I don't know what the hell Allen meant, but he came off like an arrogant bullying chucklehead, and it was clearly delivered as a juvenile epithet of some kind, lame on a school playground, and even more so in a senatorial campaign.
