If the Dems stumble, then perhaps Allen would be seen as a formidable candidate for the Senate in 2008, if Warner retires. Any chance Allen might want to run for governor again in 2009? I don't know if there is a life time limit of 1 term, or if a governor can run a second time as long as it is not consecutively.
Re: political comebacks
Don't forget Arkansas Bill got dumped from an incumbent governorship and came back to become POTUS
In Virginia, someone who was governor can run again.
But their terms must be non-consecutive.
Mills Godwin was elected governor as a Democrat from 1965-69 and then as a Republican from 1973-77.
"Allen would be seen as a formidable candidate for the Senate in 2008, if Warner retires"
1. Jahn will not retire.
2. Former GOV Warner (D) would walk into the seat if he wanted it.
