Just as California voters did a decade ago, Michigan voters on Tuesday approved a controversial measure to ban affirmative action programs in public employment and university admissions. The Michigan measure, called Proposal 2, was backed by Ward Connerly, the former University of California regent who also backed California's law, Proposition 209, approved in 1996.
Unofficial final election results today said 58.1 percent voted "yes" on Proposal 2, with 41.9 percent against.
University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman said she would investigate an immediate legal challenge to the proposal, which officials said would severely hamper efforts to ensure a diverse student body.

Well, here is proof that while the election was a defeat for Republicans, it wasn't a victory for liberalism.

That's what I always tell people about our "blue" state. We may have democrats forced on us by the cities but ballot proposals belong to we the people.

They'll find a judge to throw this out inside of six months, unless it was a constitutional amendment. And even then, they'll probably find one that will find a "penumbra" or something.

If you look at voter % that elected Grandstand and voted to end AA it is a close match.
What this means is that Detroit can't be blamed for getting the RATS elected, or the Dem's that voted for Grandstand don't support the blacks precious AA program.
Blacks should be questioning what they really gain by their devotion to the RAT party?

We had two victories of sorts in Michigan: 1) the affirmative action ban and 2)defeating a proposal the NEA supported that would have increased education funding with none of the money going to the classroom.
Other than that, it was a miserable night. By reelecting Granholm, Michigan voters still don't understand that clueless blonds may be great in bed but they make lousy governors.

I'm still wondering why Joe Schwarz decided to run as a write in on Monday. Seems that his loss in the primary has addled his brains.

That vote was to amend the Michigan constitution. While entertaining but saddening, I want to hear a judge say that an amendment to the constitution is un-constitutional. lol.

We also banned eminent domain. Said no to allowing the education budget to increase each year with the cost of living, said no to dove hunting, and said yes to protecting fund for state recreation, parks, etc. (meaning the funds can not be raided for other government expenditures.)
