Soldiers will face sanctions for posing in nude photos [no photos]

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Female National Guard soldiers who posed nude for pictures before deploying Iraq will face "nonjudicial, administrative measures," the Army said.

The women were not suspended and were "busy supporting the war effort," Maj. Jay Adams, chief of public affairs for the 13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), told The Courier-Journal of Louisville on Tuesday.

Adams said the investigation was conducted by commanders in Iraq and that he was barred from releasing more information about the sanctions by the federal Privacy Act.

Administrative sanctions can include measures such as docking soldiers' pay or confining them to barracks.

The allegations were reported to the commander of the 410th Quartermaster unit about a week to 10 days before the Danville-based company shipped out for Iraq on Aug. 26 from Camp Shelby, Miss. Eleven of the 107 soldiers in the unit are women.

The Courier-Journal reported in September that the Army was investigating whether women had brought discredit to the military by agreeing to be photographed. The allegations were investigated by the Army because the unit had been assigned to active duty.

The newspaper reported that it had been independently provided a compact disc containing 232 photographs of at least a half-dozen nude and seminude women in various poses with military rifles and covering their breasts with American flag decals.

Lt. Col. Phil Miller, a spokesman for the Kentucky Guard, said Tuesday that "as far as the leadership of the Kentucky National Guard is concerned, this incident is now closed, and the soldiers of 410th Quartermaster Unit can proceed with the mission they were mobilized to perform as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom."

I am an E-7(P) and I do worry about BS like this. Too many Guard soldiers think that they are only in the military one weekend a month and two weeks a year. Whether they want to admit it or not they are TDY to the civilian world 28 days a month, not the other way around. What they do between drills DOES affect the military.

They're just following the lead of bill clinton in the oval office dropping his drawers.....

And I want to add here, that part of the reason why the government is so corrupt is the fact that the U.S. Senate did not do it's job after the House impeached that poor excuse of a man or a president. No one fears any real punishment any more.

Here we have bill clinton running all over the place like he never did that which we all know he did, repeatedly. And his wife if a U.S. Senator! Not only do not punish them, they are rewarded with further power to inflict more damage on our culture.

Then, of course, we have N.Pelosi and company accusing the Republican party of corruption. It's a joke.

But you can bet your life these soldiers WILL pay. And I am NOT of the mind that these female soldiers are right. Their conduct is deplorable. but, afterall, bill clinton got away with it, right?

The military does not need the bad press of tart soldiers posing undressed.

Dude, think of the recruiting potential:

"You might find yourself in a foxhole with this fox if you join the Army. Sign on the dotted line."

A 1st AD soldier appeared in Playboy a few years back. She had apparently taken the photos while in the military and they were published after she got out. The Army was mad, but apparently it was too much trouble to bring her back to active duty in order to punish her, so they let it go.

I really do not see any humor in this. A freshly promoted E-6 in my company had a personal porn site. I saw to it personally he's no longer an NCO, busted two pay-grades at an Article 15. I have no patience whatsoever for that kind of horse$hit. I will not allow soldiers to discredit my 1SG, Commander, Company or the Florida Army Guard because some want to behave like idiots.

If the URL of that website got out, our Commander and possibly 1SG would have been toast. I will not let that happen. Instead, that soldier is a SPC.

TDY between drills? Really - where do I submit my travel voucher?

Funny, you know what I mean. The problem is, a lot of the younger soldiers don't.

Military folks have always been a physical bunch. And few, if any of them, can ever be classified as angels. A porn site, or posing nude, are very minor things. Having 19 years on active duty and in the Reserve, and being a Navy brat (having bounced around the country and overseas for my first 16 years), I have seen firsthand the things sailors and Marines do and I know quite well why the areas around the gates to nearly every military installation on the planet are crowded with bars, strip clubs, payday loan places, tatoo parlors and whatnot. Somehow what these women did barely pings on my radar.

What they do between drills DOES affect the military.

The military is not a convent and female soldiers are not nuns. It no more affects the military than a student's pictures on facebook affects a college.

I can see two sides of this.

Unfortunately, what soldiers do reflects on all other soldiers, so we have to keep high standards. But with so many real problems out there and so many enemies who really want to kill us, it's honestly hard to get too worked up about some young people who are just having some fun.

Non-judicial punishment is probably the right approach.

the mods should let pics go today because of how depressing its been around here.

Good comment -- I agree with you that this would be a good day to bend the rules and brighten things up.
