Ah, geez, things could not have been more bleak and you had to remind me of something I had not even thought of.

You are right. Bolton will be gone by the end of the year and the Dhimis will get to choose who they want--maybe even Bill?

Sadly it appears that W is in a conciliatory mood and will cave on just about everything, including this.

Think I need to have an adult beverage even if its only the middle of the day.

Can we try and slam him through to a full appointee before January? Perhaps since Chaffee's out he'll go ahead and vote to confirm him.

I doubt that. Had Rumsfeld stayed, he would have spent the next two years planted in a witness chair. I like Rummy but this is a good cut-your-losses move.

On the broader agenda, we've been gridlocked for two years and we'll be gridlocked for the next two. I hate to say it, but we're dead in the water. The 2008 campaign started today. Let's see what Bush does on the next SC appointment.
