WASHINGTON -- President Bush said Wednesday Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld is stepping down and former CIA Director Robert Gates will take over at the Pentagon and in prosecuting the war in Iraq.

Rumsfeld, architect of an unpopular war in Iraq, intends to resign after six stormy years at the Pentagon, Republican officials said.

Do you actually expect pre-election predictions and statements to be true?

pre-election predictions, no. pre-election statements, yes, I do expect our guys to be telling the truth. If Rummy is doing a fantastic job, than he should keep his job, not get s***canned because of some political heat from the dims! I expect them to stay the course, this kind of wussified move will just hurt further.

"Just watched the news conference from the White House where W introduced Gates and thanked Rumsfeld. Did you see it?"

No.

Rumsfeld Cuts And Runs.

Like Hell.

He's a better man than you could ever hope to be, in this life or any other life.

Shame on you.

Well..ok then. Mad is ok, but there is a lot of air between MAD and IMPEACHMENT.

Ticking us off is not high crimes and misdemeanors.

I'm amazed at the strength of this President and his people. It makes me wonder why he and the VP don't just chuck it all in as well...

Actually I am pleased with the timing. Look at the alternatives:

Before election: Rummy is pawn and troops feel like their leadership is determined by politics. Dem's take credit for MSM pressure to relieve Rummy.

Late November or afterwards: Pelosi & bunch take initiative to remove Rummy and get the idea they have the power to...

No, I like the timing.

I don't know about the timing. It did not become readily apparent to Bush overnight that Rumsfeld should go, did it? If Rumsfeld needed to go, then he needed to go for policy reasons months ago, not for political reasons today. I would have preferred a more principled decision based on policy several months ago rather than one that smacks of political necessity after a failed election. Just a little disappointed. That's all.

The press already asked for Cheney head this morning at the press conference. The president is 100% behind Cheney and the bus is coming. Perhaps a shoove. Bush makes me ill now. He is castrated President with very few options.

You don't have to surrender. You just move your assets. The enemy moves to fill the voids.

>>Rush knows he's on his way to early retirement beginning next year<<

How do you know that? I must have missed it. Did he mention it on his show, or somewhere else?

I know it because every single conservative talk show host that I listen to including Rush has said that should the Dems win both Houses in this election they will pass some form of the fairness doctrine once again to shut down conservative talk radio, their # 1 enemy. Rush has been a lot less excited about it than the others probably because he can retire with no financial worries. All of them expect a good portion of the Pubbies to help the Dems pass it as they are as uncomfortable as the Dems when talk radio turns the light on them and reports on their scurrying like the cockroaches many of them are.

Thanks -

I added a zinger there!

I saw Slick Willie get all red in the face and insane telling Chris Wallace that "Blackhawk Down (a movie title!) was not my fault!"

I came across that in a Google search earlier. Should find that site again as it's something that makes Clinton furious!

In his 1998 interview with ABC, Osama bin Laden said he was shocked at how quickly Americans fled Mogadishu, that it showed them to be "paper tigers". That weakness--followed by the weak nonresponse to Khobar Towers96, Embassies98, Cole2000, made 911 inevitable.

Now we are insulted with a commander-in-chief offering up the head of his military upon the altar of the enemy, to appease its animosity.

This is our standard bearer, who, after six years, laments the failure of his "new tone" policy to achieve some saccharine and glutinous edenic utopia.

Politics is war by other means. Now we are surrounded by sharks: Putin's Russia mobocracy, Hu's red warlord borg, Chavez' ego vortex, Ahmadinejad's centrifugal lust for its lost imam, and the Clinton Janus' long march to the Oval Office.

Only David Horowitz understood the way to beat the Left in the streetfighting. Meanwhile the "new tone" (political correctness to be sure) assured that the right side would be going down faster than Monty Python's Black Knight.

Why does not the bully pulpit call out this media as the whore of the Left, and call out the Left as the Fifth Column whore of the islamofascist enemy?

Why does the bully pulpit whitewash the invasion by illegals and its subsequent pollution and dilution of the pride of citizenship and the honor of defending the nation's sovereignty and freedom?

Why has this leader allowed Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo and every act of every military and intelligence agency to be smeared, slandered, attacked and persecuted?

Why are Marines on trial for murder on the basis of enemy accusations, and why are two U.S. Border Patrol agents in prison for a decade (they'll be killed by Mexican gangs) on the basis of the accusations of an illegal alien drug smuggler?

Why did this leader call the Minutemen vigilantes while embracing Vicente Fox?

To be sure, he's carried the war to the enemy, but why do we still hear of the doings of that greasy weasel of Sadr City? Why isn't his head on a spike at the edge of the crater that was Sadr City?

Lincoln grabbed a congressman calling for surrender and gave him to Jefferson Davis. FDR and Truman put a hundred thousand behind the wire and hung Nazi spies. We allow Ramsey Clark to defend Saddam Hussein and give up our Marines, our Border Patrol agents, and our Secretary of Defense.

Let me be clear: Islam is a cult demanding submission, not a religion of peace. Putin's soul is that of an assassin and a gangster. The "New Tone" is a deathwish.

SCOTUS should have been ushered into a room and the door locked

911 films run and an opinion by the AG read about the extremist actions by the Commander in Chief if the judiciary attempts to dictate how a war should be run

Eventually it is quite like a strike on America will require that those obstructing the conduct of effective winning military operations be dealt with harshly

That includes all members of Congress
