Ken Mehlman is not the problem. GOP losses tonight have nothing to do with a faulty organizational scheme or tunrout (Mehlman's job.) They have to do with a lack of ideological vision and backbone on the part of the GOP and the President, a love of power, a hard war in Iraq, and personal ethical failings on the part of members of Congress.

That's about the size of it.

More or less what I said. If Republicans understood power politics, we would not now be in a position where the defense of the United States is in jeopardy.

I now have to decide if I want to fight a court battle to take my daughter out of a major Al-qaeda target city.

Thanks to the "values" voters.

I really wanted the Republicans to hold the House and the Senate, but they have no one to blame but themselves. Unfortunately, some of our good Conservative members were singled out for defeat, and it worked. I'm glad Hastert won his seat again, but I think he really hurt Republicans when he supported Rep. William Jefferson (D.La.) against the FBI! We did not have strong leadership in the House or Senate.

Republicans have got to learn to stand up for what is right and stop the dang capitulation game they play so well. While not a Lott fan, I would never have suggested he resign as Majority Leader. He did nothing wrong, but the Republicans wouldn't tell the Democrats to shove it. If they had any backbone, they would have attacked the Democrats with their own failings when they criticized Lott. I was very disappointed with Frist as the Leader...he was weaker and less knowledgeable about the Senate than Lott was. Why didn't they continue to pound Harry Reid until the media were forced to cover and report his unethical dealings as often as they ran that silly "Macaca" mess. The double standard and bias of the media needs to be dealt with IMO.
