No, it was conservative democrats that crossed over and voted GOP that got Reagan elected. If a Santorum or the like is what we put through in the primary in '08 we'll lose... sorry to sound so pesimistic, but I'm looking at the country as a whole and being realistic.
Those conservative democrats may no longer exist! Those votes were 20 years ago. I am unconvinced the "Reagan Democrat" exists as a political force now.
