What about Thomas Jefferson and more recently Ron Paul? Both libertarian.

"You focus exclusively on drugs when discussing libertarianism while ignoring everything else about it."

I wouldn't have to bring up the obvious if you folks didn't try to hide behind Reagan so often...but that's your call.

As for staying along for the ride...I live in Mike Pences district now. I voted for him. I've attended rallys for him and know some of his local staff. I really do hate to break this to you but he is far from being libertarian...big or little.

Please see my previous posts to you where I put out some non-drug-related libertarian issues. Pence would agree with me on all of them. I'm curious as to whether you would or not.

BTW, thank you for your support of Pence. He's one of the few non-scumbags out there.

BTW - if the GOP wanted libertarian votes - why didn't they try to earn them with their actions over the last 12 years?

Really why?

You put the cart before the horse. The fact is libertarian philosophy will at times cross path with conservative principles...that is simply a random event and not rooted in conservative ideals.

I know there are individuals who consider themselves little "l" libertarians but I have very little idea what that means.

Please take a look at the Republican Liberty Caucus Mission Statement that JimRob posted. It sums up the tenets of small-l libertarianism quite well.

Would you please look at the RLC mission statement I linked to and point out which parts of it are not conservative? I mean, the owner of the worlds premeire conservative forum obviously think it is conservative enough for him. Small government and individual rights are the bedrock which conservatism is based on.

Why would I want to look at the RLC talking points? Libertarian actions speak far louder.

I think there will be a third party, a strong one, sooner rather than later. It's going to be a mix of dissed dems (those that Nancy will throw under the bus), conservatives and a mix of a few other parties.

Maybe I'm wrong, I'm so befuddled today after last night...

Ummm, because we're on a thread talking about libertarianism?

Libertarian actions speak far louder.

OK, let's use my actions as an example. I'm a libertarian and yesterday I held my nose and voted for liberal RINO dip$hit Tom Kean Jr here in Jersey. I also voted to re-elect top-ACU-rated Rep. Scott Garrett, but not after spending money and time throughout the campaign to help him win. I also hounded otherwise politically uninterested family members in Maryland and Ohio to vote Republican as a personal favor to me.

I honestly think that your aversion to libertarianism comes from the heyday of the FR drug thread flame wars. I suspect that you were treated badly by some of the jerks and now paint libertarians with a broad brush. Your unwillingness to even share your opinions on libertarian issues is what makes me suspect this.

The fact is though, that as of yesterday, we're in a bad situation politically. Dangerous people are in charge of the House. They love seeing petty bickering amongst conservatives as it only enables them. We need to stick together.

If you were willing to answer my questions earlier, I bet you that we would agree on almost every issue. The fact that we're both big fans of Rep. Pence should indicate this.

We really don't need to go any further then one of your first comments, "I'm a libertarian and yesterday I held my nose and..."

Yesterday, after years of attempting to unify and energize all conservative voters with BS like that, many libertarians didn't hold their noses, they voted for "conservative" candidates and many others stayed home.

What frustrates me is that CWO is a great poster on topics such as the military and foreign affairs. He just goes intentionally dopey whenever libertarianism is brought up.

"He just goes intentionally dopey whenever libertarianism is brought up."

Remember, it was you who used the terms dopey and libertarianism in the same sentence. You're accurate in several ways.

We really don't need to go any further then one of your first comments

And you always pull this crap too. You cherry-pick one thing, completely out of context, comment on it, and ignore the substance of the actual post you are responding to. I really didn't expect you to address any of the queries I posed to you before or for you to actually comment on the RLC mission statement because to do so would shatter your cognitive dissonance regarding libertarianism. There was no logically sound way for you to respond to those posts.

Not that I ever expect to have an intelligent discussion with you regarding libertarianism, but I came across this piece on small-l libertarians. Mike Pence is mentioned on there.

I apologize if I'm a bit more harsh than usual, but I'm in a $hitty mood over the election anyhow, and attitudes like yours can only f$%& up our chances in the future. Notice I said OUR chances. We're on the same team whether you wish to acknowledge it or not.

We are not on the same team...and a whole lot of conservative American's are waking up to that knowledge today. Our team could see the difference between Republican and Democrat.

Our team knows we are at war and would not risk our national security to "teach" a political party a lesson.

Our team recognizes that the Republican party isn't perfect, but fully understands that it is the only tool we have to affect change in government.

Enjoy your $hitty mood and be sure to thank your comrades who voted for other than RINOs or who sat out the vote in protest.

I just got done telling you about how I worked my a$$ off to get REPUBLICANS elected!

Our team knows we are at war and would not risk our national security to "teach" a political party a lesson.

I'm a veteran of the Clinton military, Chief. I know how dangerous Democrats can be with regards to the military.

Our team recognizes that the Republican party isn't perfect, but fully understands that it is the only tool we have to affect change in government.

BINGO!!!!!! That is why folks like myself, Jim Robinson, and Ron Paul endorse the REPUBLICAN Liberty Caucus. We want to use the GOP to lessen the size and scope of government. What is so damned offensive to you about this? Do you prefer Christie Whitman's Main Street Republicans? The Log Cabin Republicans?

Enjoy your $hitty mood and be sure to thank your comrades who voted for other than RINOs or who sat out the vote in protest.

I don't have any "comrades". I'm an individualistic libertarian, remember?
