I think that Farah is feeling what a lot people are feeling: that the Republicans aren't going to lose today.

Having taken the "Just stay home" route before, had Republicans done as he suggested (it wasn't REALLY a suggestion, it was a prediction), he would have been able to crow from his pulpit that he saw it coming, had the pulse, etc.

But he's feeling what everyone is feeling (I had lunch yesterday with depressed Democrats - THEY don't think they're going to sweep it anymore), and sees that his "Just stay home" stance is no longer accurately predictive. So, now, he wants to be sure to have his final election day article give a reason why he "switched" his view, so that he can turn out "right" in the end, and claim a degree of prognosticating power. reaching to find something to grasp, he groped for the Kerry comment. The Republicans are NOT going to win today because of Kerry. They are going to win today because Americans are simply not ready to go to the polls and vote for America to be defeated in a war. Everybody knew that was what this election was about from the get go. Kerry didn't say anything surprising.

Trouble is, the Democrat prognosticators hate the war, and wanted to use the media to depress turnout. But the turnout was going to be there anyway, because Americans are not going to go vote to lose a war. So now they have to find someone to BLAME, and that's Kerry. It's EASIER than accepting the idea that the country is never going to agree with you on the war. Taht's the Democrats CORE issue. They CAN'T let go of it. They are pathologically opposed to even necesasry war, like 1936 Western appeasers.
