I know this store owner and have done business with him for years.
I'm glad he survived and that the perp didn't.

Of course I am glad that the bad guy got what was coming to him, but I admit, as a comic collector since the tender age of 7 or so way back in 1975, and having dealth with comic book dealers since then, it's really hard to be sympathetic to a comic book store dealer.
Just kidding! ;-)

As long as it was the 'right' one.
Which, in this case, it was.
One less perp to contend with. Saves tons of money for tax payers too.

Webb was sentenced out-of-state to 15 years in prison in 1994 for armed robbery. Sounds like another Michael Dukakis ad in the making to me. As well as a future felon democrat voter. The DNC will get him to the polls tomorrow, right?

The question is whether or not this store owner had the right to protect himself and to have a weapon, Birkett said. He does. He has a (Firearm Owners Identification) card. He's got that right under Illinois law.
I'm glad the State granted him the privilege of defending himself. If he hadn't had that card, it would have been best to just let the thug have his way.

Score one for the good guys!
It's always pitiful to see how many Second Amendment infringements that law-abiding citizens have to get through to be "legal", though. The criminal never bothers with all the red tape, they just get a gun and go out to do their business.
From the article, we learn that if this store had been in Chicago, the store owner would now be dead.

He had a right to possess a weapon. He had a (firearm owner's identification) card, he has a right to have the weapon. Birkett said the practice is legal except in municipalities, such as Chicago, that specifically bar handgun ownership.
"He'd be dead if he were operating his business in Chicago - and local politicians agree that is best" Birkett was quoted as saying. (not really).

During the shootout, were there word-balloons such as, "BAM-BAM!" and "POW!"?
And when the perp died, did they find the ever-present "Arrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhh" word-balloon????

Actually, I think that there was a shootout in a comic book store in that film. And it was written by our own Jim Robinson!
Well, okay. It was written by James Robinson, a fairly well known comic guy, but it's an odd coincidence.
