A popular legend from the Jim Crow era -- one I've never seen proven or disproven -- is that of the "paper bag party." A bouncer stood by the door with a folded paper grocery bag. If your skin was lighter than the bag, you were in; if not, not.

I wonder if thats an urban legend.I hear older black people saying it most defintely WAS true,but no one can ever fix on a time,date and place where this so called"paper bag test" occured.
