This didn't just happen yesterday. Syria has been thuging and interfering with Lebannon for years now. Syria is not run by Assad sr anymore. Its now run by a mafia like organization of Assad sr's generals and security people with his kid as a figure head. A major portion of the Syrian economy was based on laundering crime money through Lebannese banks and weapons & drug smuggling from Syria through the Bakaa Valley to Lebanese ports. The russian mob is heavily involved.
Syria looks at its removal from control of Lebannon as only temporary. They have been working with the Iranians to continue to destablize the Lebanese leadership. The idea being that eventually, Hezbollah and Syria will rule all of Lebannon together and declare it a Islamic state.
