"Sorry everyone, but I just wish they wouldn't have gone"

You should talk to these people. They've wanted to go so passionately, and for so long.

I can tell you from speaking with the delegation that just seeing the free Iraqi people and seeing a different side of the story that isn't reported on TV (the violence in Baghdad and the 4 provinces is real, but there are 18 PROVINCES - and in the other 14 there is very little violence).

I am so glad these parent's are getting to do this and I am so excited each time I get an email with more details with accounts from their trip.

I know so many Freepers read this story with a deep heartfelt thank you for all those people that have made it possible for these moms, dads, sisters, brothers to be able to travel to Iraq. May they leave with a feeling of peace and clouser, with the full knowledge their loved ones did not die in vain.
The Iraq War is an epic event in modern history. I dare not chance diminshing it's significance with phrases that do not envelope the full ramifications it will mean to literally hundreds of millions of people that have long lived in object poverty of spirit and now can peep at what so many in the west so gravely neglect to hold sacred.
GWB is right. All peoples regardless of the position in life seek freedom of thought and choice.
Not only the Muslim world can now see a different choice, but all those that live in still oppressive countries the world over, see that good can triumph over evil. GWB and America and all the Coalition forces and their respective governments have given tens of millions of people around this globe a refreshed hope that their day may come when they can seek good governments by a free process of voting and then have the rights under laws to hold those governments accountable.
GWB and our armed forces have done more for this world's peoples then all the horse manure generated over the years by the UN.
One would be foolish at best, if they where to think peoples in still oppressed countries around the world are not following what happens in Iraq very closely where they somehow can get access to world news.
And the taste and smell of freedom exhales from their nostrils as they to dream of the rights we in America often take for granted.
GWB knows in his heart of hearts, that dispite what may be written of him. He had the balls to go against the grain and do the right thing.

I don't have to talk to them. No doubt they are passionate about going. But what if this were WWII and their loved one died at the Battle of the Bulge, do you think that taking a trip the the Ardennes would have been a good idea?

I know the reality of Iraq, that Bagdad is the epicenter and that much of the country is stable. So what? They're soldier/Marine didn't die in the peaceful part. Do you advocate a trip to Fallujah, or perhaps Sadr City?

My point was to wait until things were a bit more stable before going to Iraq. Then go.

"My point was to wait until things were a bit more stable before going to Iraq. Then go."

That's a decision you have to make for yourself then. These families feel entirely differently from what you've written.

Really? I knew Kristinn was there but didn't realize there were other FReepers with the group as well! How about Melanie Morgan... isn't she a FReeper?
