Justice has been served and we are now celebrating together with the people of Iraq.
(IRAQ) A historic delegation of Gold Star Families in Iraq (families who lost a child in the war on terrorism) reacted today with jubilation at the GUILTY verdict handed down against the murderous former dictator of Iraq, Saddam Hussein.
These American families are on a 10-day journey to Iraq to see the land where their children died in the fight against terrorism. Never before has such a coordinated delegation of Gold Star Families visited Iraq, and their arrival comes amidst news reports that Saddam Hussein had a nuclear weapons program under development before Coalition Forces toppled his regime.
The trip is organized by the nations largest grass-roots pro-troop organization, Move America Forward which was founded in 2004.
COMPLETE DETAILS INCLUDING PHOTOGRAPHS & AUDIO FILES ARE AVAILABLE ONLINE: www.MoveAmericaForward.org
The families explained that news of the verdict was especially heartening since their children gave their lives to free the people of Iraq and bring an end to Iraqs dubious role as a state sponsor of terrorism under Husseins brutal rule.
Justice has been served and we are now celebrating together with the people of Iraq, said Gold Star Father, Joseph Williams. Williams is a resident of Vacaville, California and his son Michael died near Nasiriyah, Iraq.
Mike Andersons son died in the Anbar province of Iraq. He reacted to the news of the Saddam verdict by noting that it provided additional justification for the war on terrorism.
We are doing the right thing in Iraq, and many of the people in Iraq are trying to do the right thing in building a future free of violence and terrorism, Anderson said.
Debra Argel Bastian of Lompoc, California agreed.
I am so happy to see that justice has prevailed over terrorism and bloodshed. Saddam Hussein killed millions of people, he sponsored terrorism and he sought to spread his tyrannical rule throughout the Middle East. Now he is being held accountable for his actions.
I am so proud of the men and women of the United States military who have made this moment possible. And I honor the sacrifice my son gave to serve his country in the war against terrorism, Argel concluded.
There are actually THREE FReepers on this trip. Kristinn, RWGuy, reaganite84.
Ooops, I forgot Debra Argel is a FReeper too. I don't know her FR handle though.
You should talk to these people. They've wanted to go so passionately, and for so long.
I can tell you from speaking with the delegation that just seeing the free Iraqi people and seeing a different side of the story that isn't reported on TV (the violence in Baghdad and the 4 provinces is real, but there are 18 PROVINCES - and in the other 14 there is very little violence).
I am so glad these parent's are getting to do this and I am so excited each time I get an email with more details with accounts from their trip.
God bless all the Gold Star families and bless this trip.
God bless these families - their valor is greater than any pain death can give. May their journey bring them peace and joy.
I don't have to talk to them. No doubt they are passionate about going. But what if this were WWII and their loved one died at the Battle of the Bulge, do you think that taking a trip the the Ardennes would have been a good idea?
I know the reality of Iraq, that Bagdad is the epicenter and that much of the country is stable. So what? They're soldier/Marine didn't die in the peaceful part. Do you advocate a trip to Fallujah, or perhaps Sadr City?
My point was to wait until things were a bit more stable before going to Iraq. Then go.
That's a decision you have to make for yourself then. These families feel entirely differently from what you've written.
See the links I posted immediately above - the content also helps to tell the REAL story of what's going on over there.
Ooops, I forgot Debra Argel is a FReeper too. I don't know her FR handle though.
Really? I knew Kristinn was there but didn't realize there were other FReepers with the group as well! How about Melanie Morgan... isn't she a FReeper?
Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my miscellaneous ping list.
Thanks for this. Any pix of Kristinn & Co. in Iraq?
No, I haven't see any yet. I'll be sure to ping you when I find any! :o)
