.....If there's racism, including a past pattern of racism, it falls entirely on the Democratic doorstep. And the trend hasn't stopped; Steele's white opponent, Rep. Ben Cardin, is white, and virtually the entire Democratic establishment in the state backed him in his successful primary race against former Rep. Kweisi Mfume. Blacks were told, in effect, not yet, and many of them are understandably asking, "How long, O Lord, how long?"
... at 29.1 percent almost two and a half times the national average of 12.4 percent, the fact that blacks have been shut out of real leadership in the party is particularly egregious. But it's true throughout the country.
That's the other reason Steele's election is so critical, to Republicans and black voters. In the entire history of the United States, only five African Americans have served in the Senate: three Republicans and two Democrats. And in these post-civil rights times, it is only fitting to ask why the party for whose candidates 90 percent of black voters regularly cast their ballots has not done better. Indeed, if you believe in affirmative action, as Democrats say they do, then there should be ten or eleven black Democratic senators at any given time these days. Whereas in fact there has never been more than one.
Michael Steele's election as lieutenant governor of Maryland served to awaken black voters in that state to the fact that they were second-class citizens within their own party, and many of them are determined to send the party a message by voting for Steele this year. If he gets something like 25 percent of the black vote, he will probably win,...
The awakening that followed Steele's election four years ago in Maryland will become national if he becomes a United States senator.

Michael Steele has momentum and things are moving in his direction. The billion dollar question is, will it be enough?
Ping.

WAPO dissed Steele today, as an empty suit, coming out for Cardin. Sad, and dissappointing. WAPO endorsed Erlich.
Steele's white opponent, Rep. Ben Cardin, is whiteBut is he white? ;') All we have to do is show up on election day. The Dhimmicrats aren't finished yet, but most of us will live to see it.
He's a die in the wool LIBREAL!
I'm not so confident on these statistics. Actually, if registered Rats outnumber Republicans 2:1, there is a majority of whites who votes democrat. So, Steele needs more than 40-50% of blacks to win.
Martin Luther King was a REPUBLICAN! Find out WHY!!!
"Steele basically told the Washington Post to kiss his ass this morning on Fox News Sunday."
If he gets elected they probably will.

Blechhhh.... the most empty suited Senate candidate this season is BOB CASEY JR. Mr no-show on debates, incoherent and babbling on the issues, and firm only in his level of indecisiveness.
Steele is head and shoulders, literally and figuratively, above many Senate pygmies. He would be a great asset to the US Senate in so many ways.
Oh, no, not a libreal! ;') Heh... by a weird coincidence, I'm typing this at the library. I actually left to take a walk, and wound up checking out this nice new one. Beautiful, should be after two years or whatever. Not too many books, or so it seems. Always was a small place, now it has more floor space. And I want to take a walk, so, I'm going to check out this Cicero and head out. ;')
I will mark you down as agreeing with me that WAPO doesn't have a clue about the Steele story, and its meaning, and significance, and about the qualities of the man himself, juxtaposed agasint Cardin's play it safe liberal CW colorless inertia. Is that a fair inference on my part?
In an odd way, that reformation seems more apt than orginal "dyed in the wool."
Makes me think of a wolf in sheep's clothing getting clobbered.
What did he say?
To dems .. all repubs are "empty suits" - they said the same thing about Bush.
No books?
Have a good walk.
You're too kind.
Red faced.
I can't find the transcript but it had to do something with the Washington Post can bite me.
