WHY IS JACK SCARED TO DEBATE? REASON NUMBER ONE: HE REALLY DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW HE'S A CENTRAL PART OF THE CULTURE OF CORRUPTION IN CONGRESS

Sunday, November 5, 2006

(MONONGAHELA, November 5) -- Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- responding to Jack Murtha's refusal to meet with her to debate the issues, despite newspaper editorials urging him to debate, a League of Women Voters offer to host and sponsor a debate, and local television stations' offer to air the debate -- today released this statement:

"Almost three weeks ago, we began our 21-part series, 'Why doesn't Jack want to debate?' wherein I suggest 21 reasons Jack Murtha might be refusing to debate me in public. So far, we've listed 20 reasons Mr. Murtha wouldn't want to debate.

"Today I offer reason number 1 Jack Murtha is scared to debate me: because HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW HE'S A CENTRAL PART OF THE CULTURE OF CORRUPTION IN CONGRESS.

"It seems that every day we pick up the newspapers and read about more corruption in Congress. Whether it's Congressmen getting indicted and convicted for taking illegal bribes, a Congressman caught by the FBI with $90,000 in cash stuffed in his freezer, or Congressmen being investigated for doing favors for special interest lobbying firms staffed by their former aides, the problem has gotten out of hand. This isn't a scandal that's confined to Republicans or to Democrats, and it's not confined to conservatives or to liberals - it affects members from both parties, and from all ideological persuasions.

"But just as important, the real scandal in Washington isn't just what's going on that's illegal - rather, the REAL scandal in Washington is what's going on that's PERFECTLY LEGAL, but it's just WRONG: Congressmen voting themselves pay raise after pay raise after pay raise when they're still not balancing the budget; Congressmen doing favors for the special interests who fund their campaigns, to the detriment of their own constituents; Congressmen viewing themselves as Washington's representative to their congressional district, rather than the other way around.

"Jack Murtha is a central player in this entire culture of corruption.

"Twenty-six years ago, Jack Murtha was labeled an 'unindicted co-conspirator' in Abscam, the biggest congressional corruption scandal in history. For 26 years, he did not tell the truth about his role -- but no one could ever challenge him, because no one ever saw the full FBI surveillance video of his meeting with FBI undercover agents. But on September 30 of this year, the full 53-minute video was publicly released, and it tells quite a different story: the story of a corrupt Member of Congress who wanted very much to accept a $50,000 bribe to help get a rich foreigner into America, and who used the so-called 'investment defense' as nothing more than a cover to hide his planned illicit activities. It's all there on the video - Jack Murtha, in his own words, explaining that a 'business commitment' in his district would afford him the necessary excuse to help this rich Arab sheik, without him having to worry about nosy reporters 'looking for the [expletive deleted] money.'

"The New York Times reported just a month ago that Jack Murtha regularly trades his vote for favors. A liberal congressional watchdog group rated him one of the Congress's 25 'Most Corrupt' Members, and said he may have broken federal law by accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign cash in exchange for favors he grants to the special interests. Newspaper reports have documented how clients of his brother's lobbying firm won tens of millions of dollars of earmarked federal appropriations after paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in fees to his brother's firm -- and after contributing tens of thousands of dollars to Jack Murtha's own accounts.

"Then there's the shocking story of how he hosted a welcome-back party in his congressional office for a powerful former congressional staffer who had just been convicted of taking a bribe. 'I feel like she was exonerated,' he said, before comparing the conviction to 'a traffic ticket.' It's no wonder he then tried to change the law to require taxpayers to foot the legal bills of Members of Congress and congressional staffers who had been convicted of taking bribes.

"Do you know why a private citizen can no longer file a complaint with the House Ethics Committee? Because Jack Murtha pushed to change the Rules of the House to deny that right. Under Murtha's Rule, only another Member of Congress can file an Ethics complaint against a fellow Member. Does that benefit the public interest? No, that benefits the interest of Members of Congress, and no one else -- and it benefits the interests of POWERFUL Members of Congress most of all, because no one would dare file an Ethics complaint against a Member of Congress who had the power to punish.

"And then, of course, there's the fact that in this year's political environment in Pennsylvania, where more than a dozen incumbent state legislators were voted out of office in primary elections because of their support for a pay raise for themselves, Jack Murtha doesn't want to have to explain his SEVENTEEN votes to raise his own pay over the years -- including voting for TWELVE STRAIGHT PAY RAISES FOR HIMSELF.

"No wonder he doesn't want to debate me.

"It's time to send in a mom to clean up the mess. Next Tuesday, voters in the 12th Congressional District will have the opportunity to do just that."

For those keeping score, here's the running scorecard:

21 REASONS JACK IS SCARED TO DEBATE: HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW:

21. He has voted himself 12 straight pay raises.
20. He has voted to raise his own pay from $42,500/yr to $165,500/yr.
19. He tried to take a $50,000 cash bribe from an undercover agent for the FBI.
18. His "investment defense" was nothing more than a ruse to hide his $50,000 cash bribe from an undercover agent for the FBI.
17. He wrongfully accused U.S. Marines of cold-blooded murder.
16. He voted against allowing military personnel to assist the Department of Homeland Security with border security in times of a threat to national security.
15. He voted against legislation to fulfill recommendations of the 9/11 Commission to prohibit illegal aliens from obtaining driver's licenses or other official ID cards; to ensure terrorists do not enter or remain in the U.S. through loopholes in asylum or deportation laws; and to strengthen border security by completing the San Diego border fence.
14. He voted against stiffer sentences for illegal aliens convicted of violent crimes or drug trafficking.
13. He voted against increasing funds to help state and local governments arrest and detain illegal aliens.
12. He voted against the Border Control, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005.
11. He voted against the Secure Fence Act of 2006.
10. He voted against protecting traditional marriage.
9. He voted to allow liberal judges to overturn a law protecting traditional marriage.
8. Contrary to what he says now about his role in Abscam, he didn't just say 'no' to a $50,000 cash bribe.
7. He once hosted a welcome back party for a former congressional staffer who'd just been convicted of taking an illegal bribe.
6. He pushed for a new law to require taxpayers to pay the legal bills of Members of Congress who had been convicted of taking bribes.
5. He voted against giving U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies the power to wiretap suspected terrorists when they call associated in the United States.
4. He voted against giving U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies the power to properly interrogate and bring to trial terrorists who plot against the United States.
3. He said we could safely redeploy American forces from Iraq to Okinawa. Okinawa, Japan. A very, very, very long ways away.
2. He voted to kill the USA PATRIOT act. Twice.
1. He's a central part of the culture of corruption in Congress.

The DUmbasses in the lame-stream, has-been, drive-by dinosaur DNC media have to cover Saddam's sentencing today and tomorrow.

He's already been sentenced to DEATH, any further trials are moot and we are again reminded of why our troops are in Iraq - depose Saddam (or REGIME CHANGE as it was referred to when Clinton adopted it as policy, but did nothing more than lip service). DUmocrats wanted the election to be about Iraq, and so it is.

1. Jean-Fraud Kerry infers that soldiers in Iraq are dumb.

2. Soldiers respond

3. NYT admits Saddam had nuke program.

4. Families of fallen visit Iraq (no quagmire)

5. Saddam sentenced (death by hanging)

News cycle seems to be working for GOP advantage thus far. DUmocrats yesterday counter with "Rusmsfeld must resign" and "recruiters caugh lying" stories. Wow. That's new....NOT!

In addition to Saddam sentencing, Fox will be running OBSESSION - THE MOVIE, and we get to see the face of the enemy again. Yesterday, Fox is also showed "waterboarding" (Steve Harrigan, a Fox reporter volunteered to show how it is done).

DUmocrats come out of hiding, but have NOTHING to give anyone a reason to trust them with power. They've even invited BJ and Al to speak for them - kiss of death.

I don't know what Monday brings, but I've got a good idea about the day after.

Do you or anyone else have a recent poll showing how well Irey is doing against that murthafocker?

No recent polls, HW. One of only two I know of over 5 weeks old and that was before the release of the FBI ABSCAM tape.

Tuesday will be the poll that counts and Diana Irey will win it.

I have heard, and cannot verify, Murtha called for a draft re-instatement.

Could you let me know if this if the case.

(D) Rangel has called for a re-instatment of the draft on November 2, 2006

This is the first prolonged war we've ever fought with three years of tax cuts without full mobilization of American industry and without a draft.

And the college campuses always ask me about a draft. "Are you for a draft?" I say, "Yes, there's only two of us who voted for it, so you don't have to worry too much about it."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/17/AR2005111700982.html

The above is from a news conference on 11/17/05 where he referred to a draft but he's whistling in the wind. He's never officially called for a draft that I know of.

He has a tendency to shoot his mouth off as when he said we could redeploy our troops to Okinawa.
