What's worse, being stuck in Iraq or stuck on stupid? We may have just witnessed the end of what was expected to be John Kerry's encore bid for the White House. Chances are the former swift boat captain will not be reporting for duty as the Democratic nominee in two years. And for that, the country can be grateful.
How could someone with a fairly decent education who is speaking to students about the importance of education wind up saying something that sounded so uneducated? What John Kerry said on Monday about how young people either "study hard ... and make an effort to be smart" or they "get stuck in Iraq" was totally lame - and his excuses for why he said it were even lamer. Shelled by criticism from the right, the Massachusetts senator at first defiantly refused to apologize, insisting that it was the Bush administration that owed the country an apology for having a "broken policy" in Iraq and arguing that what he really meant was to insult Bush for not doing his homework when it comes to the war.
But none of that rang true. And when the criticism became bipartisan to the point where Democratic candidates started distancing themselves from him, Kerry tried to atone for a "poorly stated joke" with a poorly worded statement. In it, he expressed "regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform" and apologized "to any service member, family member or American who was offended."
That's terribly weak. Why do career politicians, on the rare occasions when they do apologize, always make it sound as if what they're sorry about is that someone took offense - not that they said or did anything offensive?

It would seem that former swift boat captain, John Kerry, isn't so swift after all...
Bwa-ha-ha.
Suddenly, in 2004, the Swift Boat Vets called him on it. The press tried to cover for him again, by calling the Swift Boat charges false, although they could not disprove them. They also attempted to say that Viet Nam didn't matter anymore, so we shouldn't examine Kerry's record, although Kerry never made a speech without mentioning his tour in Viet Nam. Kerry had never dealt with antagonistic coverage before. He was used to telling half-baked lies and having the press lap it up like a dog laps up it's own vomit.
What Kerry's mind-reader apologists are saying he meant, could in some ways be worse than what we all know he meant.
Young, impressionable college students were treated to a unique exhortation to give more effort to their studies. George W. Bush has a HARVARD MBA. And he is being called dumb. If I were one of the students in attendance, I would have to wonder for what reason would I aspire to become more educated, it certainly won't insulate me from such a slander.
What's more, the butt of this alleged joke qualified to fly a very sophisticated piece of aero-nautical machinery, while the jokester in question qualified for what...a glorified BOSTON WHALER.
I believe you are correct in you analysisof his discharge. However I also believe that medical documents could not bakc up his 3 purple hearts. It is another belief of mine that the reason his 3 purple hearts were not subjected to more investigation is that his fellow officers were more than glad to see he got the award as long as he left. Just FTF out of Nam before you get someone killed .
I believe there is no doubt he hates American and the military. He adequately proved that when he joined with Hanoi Jane Fonda to attack and lie about our military way back when.
