I remember that as if it was yesterday...and I remember the country glued to our TV sets and supporting our President.
Suppose Roger Ailes has the mistaken idea the way to put FOX back up in the ratings is to become more liberal? If so, he isn't as smart as I thought he was. Their ratings are going down because they are leaning too liberal (IMO) and I'm sick of the idiots they have as pundits such as Wesley Clark, Laura Schwartz, Bill Kristol, even Mort Kondrake and particularly those guys on the news analysis show on Saturdays like Neal Gabler... I like Brit's analysis group, but this last week was so much improved with Michael Barone on for a change.
Whatever happens on Tuesday,all the DBM including Fox will find that their Ratings will be further eroding. I think we have had enough of their crap,and will not tolerate it anymore. They act like we cannot get news anywhere but by listening to their left wing mantras. I would not be surprised to see a new Media Idea that will be similar to the Morning Paper. There maybe even something that could work out for the Elderly that love their newspaper but do not do computers. We have the greatest,inventive and investigative minds right here on the Freerepublic, and we can figure out how to do this.
Clintonistas used to say "There is no evidence" when there was plenty of buzz about various situations. They must have been using a legal definition of evidence meaning something accepted into a court case or something like that. Of course, their "no evidence" statement was enough to end the line of questioning by the MSM.

Me? I'm part of the problem in that I voted absentee already. I just could not take the time to stand in line an hour waiting to vote. Besides, I get to be part of the solution too since I'll be counting those votes. ROFLOL
I agree that anyone who represents the Democratic party has earned not having the benefit of the doubt given to them (especially John Kerry) and I wish Rupert Murdoch was a conservative rather than a man who saw a niche that could be taken advantage of.
I hope Brit isn't softening, and given that he seems to read FR regularly, I find it hard to believe that he is. Maybe if he had a straight up conservative (say, Mark Steyn, Bob Tyrell) rather than only center-right and liberal-left panel mates, the panel wouldn't, as a whole, follow conventional wisdom as much. I suppose the panel limited by the fact that everyone on the panel has to be able to gather in D.C... I think Special Report is also somewhat limited by the fact that it, by itself, cannot dominate the news cycle, i.e. if the NY Times or CBS reports on something, it becomes news to rest of the MSM, whereas Fox News only has that kind of influence if what they report hurts conservatives, President Bush in particular.
Conservatives used to have Time Magazine (conservative by today's standards), the Saturday Evening Post, Reader's Digest, etc. Today it seems that every organ of the MSM leans to the left, whether it's a news weekly, a tv show, a woman's magazine, a movie studio, a men's magazine or a science magazine.
I keep hearing about ultra rich leftists like Soros. Are there any ultra rich conservatives who could start something like a right wing studio or channel? The closest thing I've heard on tv like that was probably stuff from Pat Robertson, like his rip off of Special Report and his Family Channel. Of course, there was Conrad Black, but that brings up the other problem-- if an ultra-rich conservative Republican did invest in such a project, the leftist and media legal establishment would go after him faster than if he lived in Palm Beach County.
You make a lot of good points. About the media, I wonder what Richard Mellon Scaife is doing nowadays. He used to fund The American Spectator, but stopped when they gave up on pursuing the Vince Foster story (and that's all I know about him). Maybe Rush could gather together some like-minded people and start a network. :) After all, now that there's cable, it's not so impossible as it used to be when there was the Big Three and nothing else.
So what sort of post wins a vaunted prize per Fishtalk on these Sunday Talk Show threads? Not that Fishtalk, or any of us volunteer “prize-givers” are experts at such a thing yet we do it.
I consider an interesting post to fall into one of three categories. This week we have a fourth category that I didn’t even know existed.
The first category of an intriguing post is one that provides appropriate links and quotes from another source that gives an insight to the subject discussed or being responded to. The winner this week won for falling solidly in this category alone, providing detailed quotes and links on everything from the state of the American army to updates on various upcoming elections by specific region/state and much more.
The second category I find intriguing is that perfect placement of a picture that sums up the thread to the point of the picture post. I personally like pictures and when it comes to outrageous graphics/cartoons/pics/ or photoshopped photos, none on the Internet are better than FreeRepublic posters. We have a couple of picture post winners this week. One such picture is a cartoon of animation of Saddam Hussein, who is scheduled to hang very shortly if Allah is in his heaven. Another winner is a group of pictures of Laura Bush, who recently celebrated her birthday, God Bless our lovely First Lady.
The third category of post that captures my eye truly summarizes the power of such a large forum as FreeRepublic. For this is a great big country, this United States of America. No one person can possibly keep a finger on the pulse of all that transpires on a daily basis across our fruited plains. With posters living across this great land, FreeRepublic offers the advantage of delivering news of local politics, pop culture or just plain weirdness of their own locale by posters on the scene and knowledgeable due to their proximity to the event. We have a couple of posters who received a nod just for giving us the inside scoop we could never get from the screaming headlines of the NY Times or the Washington Post.
A fourth category emerged this week as I read a reasoned yet civilized debate on the state, status, background and evolution of the American military. The debate was between basically two posters but others were reading as they chimed in once in a while with a thought or idea to spur on the discussion. Two posters won awards and provided thread readers with both sides of an increasingly difficult dilemma: adjusting and configuring the American military to deal with the War on Terror.
Forthwith, the Winners. At least as Fishtalk sees it.

I don't know if you really know how much the "Sunday Morning Talk Show Thread" means to me, and a lot of other freepers who might not have the time(or the proper blood pressure medication) to sit through every one of those talk shows, where an answer from a guest could make national,and even international news.
I have learned a lot from reading the SMTST each week here on FR, and the back and forth between Freepers on the thread, are a "great ride", and even though I rarely post on it, I seldom miss it.
If there were "Thread Awards" on FR, you would get my vote for an award.
Again, thank you all, and this also gave me a chance to give you folks who work so hard every week to make sure the thread is "up-and-running", a chance to say 'Thanks'!!
