I had a nesting set of shmoos ( like the wooden Russian dolls, but made out of REALLY thin plastic ) and I still have the book. But back then, I would have preferred to have a stuffed shmoo!
Funny how it happened. My girl friend borrowed a skirt of mine, then accidentally spilled some bleach on it.
The big white spot, right in front, was approximately shaped like a shmoo. So, with my new sewing machine, I cut out a shmoo of complementary fabric and sewed it on as an applique.
Of course, it was too ugly to ever wear again, but it made her feel better that I could "salvage" it. Then, we liked the shmoo itself so much, that I made another one and cut out two them, then sewed them together and stuffed it.
Then she wanted one, so I made another one - and so on and so on. I think I made 5 or 6!
Then we made up our own "animal" called a "fick" - a cross between the "fink" that we called everyone back then and the naughty word we couldn't say. It wasn't stuffable, tho, just a line drawing cartoon. Bet I could still draw one if I thought about it. Come to think of it, it was sort of a shmoo with front legs and kind of looked like a frog.
