With the race for lieutenant governor in the balance, Democrat John Garamendi is spending the campaign's final weekend arguing that he's a bigger supporter of Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger than his GOP opponent, state Sen. Tom McClintock.
A press release Friday listed 11 issues where the insurance commissioner supports the governor and McClintock disagrees, including Schwarzenegger's backing for an increase in the minimum wage, new controls on global warming, stem cell research and all but two of the governor's five bond measures.

McClintock's willingness to say exactly what he thinks, along with his ability to talk clearly about financial matters, won him recognition during the 2003 recall election, when he finished third in the governor's race behind Schwarzenegger and Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante.
A Field Poll released this week . . . put Garamendi and McClintock in a virtual dead heat. But just as important, it showed that 46 percent of California voters had a favorable impression of McClintock, while only 19 percent viewed him unfavorably.
"Tom McClintock is known as a smart, articulate guy with the courage of his convictions, and he has a base of supporters Democratic activists tend to underestimate,'' said Darry Sragow, a Democratic adviser to Westly in the 2002 race.

On Thursday, Schwarzenegger criticized McClintock for not supporting the infrastructure bond measures backed by the Republican governor and Democratic legislative leaders.

John Garamendi is a bigger supporter of Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger than his GOP opponent. Schwarzenegger and Garamendi hold many, similar, policy viewpoints.

Well, Duh!
Tom has my vote come Tuesday. No waiting for absentee ballots in this house.
