My wife was shocked too. I wore jeans and t shirts or button ups. No cowboy hats and boots and I wasn't scowling either.
Did you have a baseball cap on with the letters N-R-A on it? That always gets libs. I would wear mine when I used to do a lot of work in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
