An ad by challenger Charlie Brown contrasts his Vietnam military service with Rep. John Doolittle's attendance at UC Santa Cruz.

Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Charlie Brown is running a television commercial that touts his military record while attacking incumbent Rep. John Doolittle for not serving in Vietnam.
The ad juxtaposes black-and-white footage depicting college students dancing on a beach with footage of Vietnam-era combat helicopters. It goes on to show photos of Brown as a young military officer and Doolittle as a young politician.
Following is the text of the ad and an analysis by Peter Hecht of The Bee Capitol Bureau:
•TEXT: While John Doolittle rode out the war at UC Santa Cruz, Charlie Brown was decorated for valor. Doolittle became a career politician, Charlie Brown a career Air Force officer. Now Doolittle's launched a cowardly attack on Charlie Brown's patriotism -- even as Charlie's son leaves to serve again in Iraq. Shame on John Doolittle for attacking a man of honor. Shame on us if we let him get away with it.
ANALYSIS: The ad attempts to answer a Doolittle commercial characterizing Brown as an anti-war candidate undermining the morale of the troops.
The most pointed claim in the ad -- that Doolittle "rode out the war" -- is based on student and church deferments from military service Doolittle received during the Vietnam War.
But the ad fails to note that the deferments included a two-year Mormon mission Doolittle undertook in Argentina. Doolittle has called the Brown campaign's charges that he avoided Vietnam service an attack on his religion.

As a veteran, the LAST THING I care about is a candidate's veteran status. On the other hand, it REALLY pi$$e$ me off when a candidate is an "anti-war veteran" or a PX hero like Hanoi Boi Jon Carry. To me, exploiting your military service for political gain cheapens the honor that we non-politician veterans earned with our military service.
Why's ev`rybody always pickin' on me?
The only thing Charlie Brown contributes is attacks on Doolittle.

Who cares? The only thing that matters is whether or not the candidate is interested in protecting the country NOW. Dare I say some people would even forgive Kerry of his traitorous past if he were on the right side of the war today.
Jon Carry has blown the cover of anti-war Vets. Just because they served, doesn't mean they are NOT anti-American, leftwing, commie, terrorist-sympathizing creeps. Charlie Brown needs to blame Jon Carry for blowing his cover.
Yet, he belittles and lies about a good and honorable man such as John Doolittle who his served his district very well all these years.
Brown is a fraud, trying to appear conservative in California's last conservative outpost just to get elected. He takes money from Botox Nancy Pelosi, Code Pink, abortion queen Barbara Boxer, and hangs out with the scummiest anti-war, ACLU and other assorted anti-American activists.
I've heard that even the hard core leftists are ticked at him for not having the courage to stand up for his leftists beliefs, all the while lying his way to garner republican voters.
What a sham.
