Note: A man in undercover assignment inside N. Korea filmed many scenes and events with his hidden video equipment while he was traveling from Sariwon, Hwang-hae Province to Pyongyang. The following is the photos taken from his video clip. It was filmed this summer right after N. Korea's missile launches.

The guy on the left is a homeless in his 30's. He has some money stashed inside his hat. Those on the right are young homeless kids.

At the bus station for out-of-town services, the homeless kids panhandle at each bus. One of them carries a baby on his back.

This is the park, called, "Red Star Station Park," located at Seosung District in Pyongyang.

Kids are catching pine worms. They are proliferating due to lack of pesticide. The kid on the lower right is a homeless at the park.

At each block unit in Pyongyang, one can get a beer ticket for half a liter of beer each month at 50 won. At the black market, it sells at 400 won. Old folks with lots of spare time collect these tickets and sell them to young people at 200~300 won a piece. This picture shows a booth where one can get approval stamp for each beer ticket. This one is located at Dae-hung-dong, Sunkyo District.

Sobie Vehicle(a privately operated shuttle) is taking cargos and passengers, until they are jam-packed. They do not leave until there is absolutely no space left. Since safety issue is totally ignored, it is prone to create high fatality accident.

This is a cement market at Sori-dong, Sariwon. Various kinds of cement are on sale per kilogram unit.

At a rural part of Sariwon, sheets of plywood and vegetables(dropwort) are loaded onto a military truck. It is Seung-ri-58 transport truck(Seung-ri means victory,) powered by charcoal engine. You can see smoke engulfing the driver seat once its engine starts. It takes a while to get the smoke out.

It shows a decree posted at a clinic located at Nak-rang District, Pyongyang.

The decree is titled, "On the severe punishment of cutting off power lines or communication lines or trafficking drugs."

The content warns, " You should not cut out power lines or communication lines, and trade them, nor trade illegal drugs. If you see people doing it, report them to authorities. Drug traffickers should turn themselves in within 10 days, or will be met with severe punishment, which ranges all the way up to execution."

It was issued by Public Security Ministry, and dated Juche 93(2004.)

There's a long, excellent article in the current issue of The Atlantic about the DPNK and its eventual collapse. Turns out most analysts (the real ones that work for the feds and devote their life to this stuff, not the talking heads on TV) think Kim-Jong Il isn't much to worry about at all, because he's actually quite rational and not particularly interested in much more than maintaining his own lifestyle and causing enough annoyance to keep his name in the Western papers. What they're worried about is some sort of localized meltdown in some North Korean town which then spreads. Internal spying is so all-pervasive that the command-and-control structure revolves entirely around paranoia; thus if the sh*t ever hits the fan over there, it's going to be every local military commander for himself. When you think your death warrant's already been written because you've lost control of your own town, you're going to gather up whatever troops and ammo you've got and try to save yourself. Take several thousand other men in the same situation - some with crude nukes, if it takes long enough for this to happen - and the results won't be pretty.

(It doesn't help that at least some of these local generals will be brainwashed enough to just attempt to invade the South themselves in the name of the Dear Leader once things start to break apart.)

I have been hearing so much about how the Chinese are afraid of all the refugees. That makes me laugh.

Probably every person who "understands" China's position on this thinks we should open our borders to anyone who wants to come here.

China is having labor shortage problems (at least for people willing to work for slave labor wages). The North Koreans would welcome the opportunity.

There was an article on FR earlier this evening about how NK was paying for oil imports from Russia by providing 5,000 laborers at no cost.

I.e., slavery.
