Just days after President Bush publicly affirmed Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's job security through the end of his term, a family of publications catering to the military will publish an editorial calling for the defense secretary's removal.
The editorial, released to NBC News on Friday ahead of its Monday publication date, stated, "It is one thing for the majority of Americans to think Rumsfeld has failed. But when the nation's current military leaders start to break publicly with their defense secretary, then it is clear that he is losing control of the institution he ostensibly leads."Just days after President Bush publicly affirmed Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's job security through the end of his term, a family of publications catering to the military will publish an editorial calling for the defense secretary's removal.

I love it.
Im not worried. Ken Mehlman will come out with his attacks when we get close to the elections
Who cares what the magazine writers think? It's not their job to decide. Sheesh. This nation is just full of left wing kooks these days.
On an earlier thread the Gannett material had to be removed.

But the msnbc headline said these are "Military publications",what are you trying to say, that they are not?
I posted that earlier article. It was MSNBC. Gannett wasn't even mentioned, although the reason stated that "it is Gannett."
Correct. Gannett wasn't mentioned but Military Times was and Gannett publishes Military Times.

The Gannet stuff is gone now, right? That would change what's in them, right? What am I missing?
They are publications for the military. They are not publications put out by the military. Info for articles comes from the military, but the editorial is strictly civilian.
"The MSNBC headline is extremely misleading."
Shocked I Am
But if Olbermann is to be believed... (ad argumentam)... the articles maintain that the top brass has lost faith in Rumsfeld. Olbermann repeats this without ever thinking that there is a reason for civilian management of the military - and that if the top brass doesn't like the Secretary of Defense - that's not reason, by itself, to remove him. If it were, there would be no distinction between that and military control of our defense forces.
uhhh - the elections are just 72 hours away.
Is he waiting for the 2008 elections?
It seems I copied and pasted the wrong headline.
You can view the new headline here.
Bet no one is willing to name the top brass. There are lots of top brass to counter the ones complaining. Rice bowls are to be protected at all costs in some peoples' minds.
The Times mags are private and not owned or controlled by the DoD.
he just might come out all right, but not with any attacks, just plain come out.
I see a backlash developing here. Don't be surprised if you see the soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen start boycotting these rags and demanding that the be removed from the PXs and BXs.
Absolutely! We call them the Navy Slimes or Navy Enquira, or Navy Crimes because they are very negative on their papers. They always try to attack the senior leadership or programs that are going on in the Navy. I would take an educated guess that this happens with Army Slimes and Marine Corps Slimes and Air Force Slimes as well. PLUS, most military has already voted anyway.
