Muslim association "surprised" at absence of land

Muslim’s association ‘surprised’ at absence of land

The Muslim’s Association of Iceland has sent out a press release in which it expresses its surprise at not having been awarded land to build a mosque in Reykjavík, while the Reykjavík District Council has signed a declaration of intent to award the Russian Orthodox Church and the Pagan Society of Iceland land to build places of worship. This is reported in the main online media.

The Muslim’s Association first applied for land to build a mosque seven years ago, but has received no definitive answer from the city. While the Association would like to congratulate the other two denominations, it also wishes to reiterate the necessity of being awarded a place for a mosque and for religious denominations in the city not to be discriminated against, according to the press release.

I'm not defending paganism, but it was the traditional religion in that area a thousand years ago. Islam wasn't.

Maybe it's time to pack my bags. If only you'd had a better government in Norway.... I guess there is always Denmark.

:-))

The old religion is still practiced there....more than anywhere else, as a matter of fact.

I can't answer your question fully. There is private private property in Iceland for individuals, but there is also some form of State support for recognized religions. I am not sure of the regulatory framework. Perhaps one of the Iceland FReepers can answer more fully. I have pinged one.

See post #45. Although there are private property rights in Iceland, there is some form of governmental support, and perhaps regulation of religious structures.

Just wait til 2009, when Siv Jensen of FrP becomes our new Prime Minister in a coalition government with the Conservatives. We'll take power alone in 2013 :-)

Other than that, I love Denmark. I would not mind moving to Copenhagen if circumstances permit.

That said, my closest relationship to any of the other Nordic countries have always been to Sweden. Stockholm will always be close to my heart. I have lived large parts of my life abroad, and where ever you go in the world, you know as a Norwegian, that if you meet a Swede you are meeting a fellow Scandinavian brother.

That is why it pains me to see what is happening in Sweden at the moment.

Then again, who knows...

Perhaps, I am just a silly alarmist, and that Sweden will emerge out of this thing as a multicultural Swedo-Islamic paradise with fun and prosperity for all :-)

Here's a scenic spot of Iceland land () that's mosque-appropriate:

Hope they go. There is a lot of adverse reaction to the Icelandic decision to resume commercial Whaling. British tourist booking are reported to be off more than 25%.

Maybe the Icelanders don't want to build an enemy base right there on their island? Seems like a logical choice since the mosque is the first place you will start preaching jihad against all those gorgeous women over there. Come to think of it, it may require the 101st Airborne to go to Iceland to secure the safety of the Icelandic women against the raiding hordes of Islam. It would be a nice change from the view in Iraq.

Great to see you around btw.

I hope you will still be around for the TdF next year. Looking forward to the stages in England.

What do you think of this whole islamic thing in Europe btw?

Cheers.

From wiki:

Icelanders enjoy freedom of religion as stated by the constitution; however, church and state are not separated and the National Church of Iceland, a Lutheran body, is the state church. The national registry keeps account of the religious affiliation of every Icelandic citizen and according to it, Icelanders in 2005 divided into religious groups as follows:

84.1% members of the National Church of Iceland.
4.6% members of the Free Lutheran Churches of Reykjavík and Hafnarfjörður.
2.5% not members of any religious group.
2.2% members of the Catholic Church, which has a Diocese of Reykjavík.

If I proposed building a cholera distribution center in the middle of Reykjavík what answer would I expect?

I know.

That report is sickening.

That is my point to people like Wester Culture, who try to put lipstick on a pig, and whitewash the situation.

The price being payed RIGHT NOW is already way to high.

Countless girls are being raped (including someone very close to me), countless people are being assaulted on the streets (including myself).

Is there a future to worry about?

The future is ALREADY here.

And, it's not looking good.

Cheers.

Gotta love that state-sponsored multiculturalism.

When was the last time you saw a Wiccan suicide bomber? (Yeah... They sometimes do the head chopping thing; but, only to each other and not without getting the choppee's permission first.)

To be fair, Icelanders are notoriously xenophobic and utterly homogeneous.
