Maura Black Sullivan
A lifelong Memphian, Maura Black Sullivan is employed by Shelby County Schools heading the department of Research and Planning. This department generates statistics covering every aspect of student life, develops and administers surveys, oversees research projects, and plans for the future development of the system by projecting student enrollment trends and forecasting the need for additional classroom and facility space.
Prior to joining Shelby County Schools, Maura was privileged to work in the offices of the Memphis City Council, US Congressman Harold Ford, Jr., and Mayor Bill Morris. She has also worked with Harold Ford and Company, the University of Memphis, and the Shelby County Juvenile Court.
Active in the community, Maura has served as President of the Shelby County Democratic Women, Vice Chair and Assistant Treasurer of the local Democratic Party, Secretary of the Board of Shelby County Headstart, Inc., Vice Chair of Strategic Planning for the Junior League of Memphis, and Chairman of Ptolemy, a social organization. She has also served on boards and committees for the Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Variety Club of Memphis.
Mrs. Sullivan holds a B.A. and a M.A. from the University of Memphis in International Relations and Public Administration and attended the University of Memphis School of Law.
