I agree. Look at the Duke lacrosse rape accusations - such a fiasco.

Exactly.

So, like I was saying...

Good call. I had hoped the story wasn't so.

Being "condemned" by that website is a badge of honor.

Good call. I had hoped the story wasn't so.

In fairness, it still may not be. You can only trust press reports so much.

Resigning is the right thing to do if his character is in question. The church cannot take instruction from someone whom they don't know if they trust.

My pastor had to resign due to an "indiscretion". We still love him and supported his 2-year rehabilitation. However, having a new preacher was the healthy thing to do.

I think we shouldn't be the judge and jury until we know the truth. The accuser FAILED a lie-detector test. I suspect the drug portion of the claims are true. The accuser is bent on an agenda to pass legal homosexual marriage. If he was supplying TH with drugs, he had enough evidence to make the affair seem plausible, and to rally support for his cause by discrediting the biggest naysayer.

"But if he stayed on, how could the investigation be seen as fair?"

Simple...that's why they use independent counsels and special prosecutors in the public sector to conduct the investigations.
Did Ronald Reagan resign during Iran-Contra? Did George H.W. Bush resign during the Savings and Loan scandal? Did Bill Clinton resign during Whitewater?

Here are the full texts of Haggard's voicemails. Why isn't Jones being investigated for dealing meth? Sounds to me like Jones was his dealer, not his gay lover. In the first message, Haggard says he needs to get Jones' address...yet Jones stated that they conducted their 3 year affair at his residence.

The first voice message, left on August 4 at 2:18 p.m., says:

"Hi Mike, this is Art. Hey, I was just calling to see if we could get any more. Either $100 or $200 supply. And I could pick it up really anytime. I could get it tomorrow or we could wait till next week sometime and so I also wanted to get your address. I could send you some money for inventory but that's probably not working, so if you have it then go ahead and get what you can and I may buzz up there later today, but I doubt your schedule would allow that unless you have some in the house. Okay, I'll check in with you later. Thanks a lot, bye."

The second voice message, left on August 4 at 5:10 p.m., says:

"Hi Mike, this is Art, I am here in Denver and sorry that I missed you. But as I said, if you want to go ahead and get the stuff, then that would be great. And I'll get it sometime next week or the week after or whenever. I will call though you early next week to see what's most convenient for you. Okay? Thanks a lot, bye."

Jones claims Art is referring to methamphetamine in the messages.

Nice catch in post 60, TKC! You beat me out by hours, LOL!

So Rev Haggard got massage but no sex, scored meth but didn't use it. I don't think I need to point out who this reminds us of.

At this point, my gut tells me that Rev Haggard has not yet arrived at his last fall-back position.

Haggard uses his position to promote a phony science espoused by world government Socialists. Evangelicals who push global warming must be opposed. Period.

I agree that the idea of global warming must be opposed (not just for opposition's sake, but with facts, as I'm sure you agree). I'm not sure that "rotting in hell" is a proper consequence for pushing pseudo-science on others. Now, having homosexual affairs and snorting meth? That might qualify.

I have read an article that indicates he admits buying drugs but then throwing them away. He also admits getting a massage by a male prostitute, but says there was no sex.

Even if all he did was what he admitted to, he needed to step down. I'm glad he's done so.

I agree with you. I'm glad he stepped down as it was the right thing to do. It just breaks my heart all the pain he has caused his children, wife and congregation, and for what? They have my prayers (Ted too).

Me too. He has also sullied the name of Christ. I wonder if he's even thought about that.

This kind of case, IMO, makes a very good point in favor of having gayness wired in. Here's a guy with incredibly powerful incentives to NOT be gay, yet he can't help himself. Why a small percentage of men prefer another man rather than a female as a sexual partner is, again IMO, NOT a choice. Either a guy loves T&A or doesn't--who REALLY thinks it's a matter of internal discussion?

People don't want to face reality. I totally agree it's not a matter of "choice". Don't know what wires got crossed at birth...but given the choice, I don't think any person would choose to be "gay"..JMHO.

That said, I still have a problem with any "flamin, in your face" attitude" the gay lib has..

Haggard obviously "swings both ways." He was "T and A" enough to have five kids with his wife and stay married to her for 28 years. Some people are bisexual.

Nope--don't buy it. He compromised so he could walk in the straight world and attend to his career, but this guy doesn't fantasize about Jessica Simpson like hetero guy does. If his urges were evenly spread out for men and women he would have been satisfied with his wife--or at least other women. The evidence is that people who call themselves "bisexual" are really gays who are willing to compromise at times.

I buy the Kinsey scale: from zero to six moving from totally heterosexual to totally homosexual in terms of both sexual behavior and sexual fantasy. If the guy stayed married for 28 years and produced five kids that's more than "compromising."

Kinsey had an agenda and produced nothing that could have been called "science.".

We will have to agree to disagree.
