The F-117A Stealth fighter was in service for six years before the Air Force admitted its existence.
Makes you wonder what they have now that is a secret.
There has been development of low frequency radar along with improved noise removal (signal processing) algorithms the last 10 years. At lower frequencies the radar cross section increases, however there is much more radar return from undesirable sources.
I wonder if the primarily motivation for the retirement was the advancement of enemy low frequency radar, or our own better aircraft.

Makes you wonder what they have now that is a secret. Maybe the Air Force just wants you to think the F-117 is retired.

I'm suprised your the first person on this post to mention that. I personally think a new generation of weapons are now available that are unmanned, more stealthy, and possibly the existence of some space based platforms, that make this jet antiquated. Time will tell.

The F-117A Stealth fighter was in service for six years before the Air Force admitted its existence. It was revealed somewhat earlier by President Carter in a campaign speech as a look at what great things the Democrats are doing for national defense ploy. It made the Pentagon angry as it could have been kept secret much longer.

" or our own better aircraft " ....... let's hope that this is the case.

The F-117 has been detectable by low band search radar since day one; a fact well known to those of us in the EW community. The Brits were tracking them from the Persian Gulf during Desert Shield/Storm.
