DIEBOOOOOOLD!!!!!
* weep uncontrollably *
Diebold is the worst offender, but none of the vendors currently certified are close to acceptable. We used Hart Intercivic here, one of the better, one race came up for recount, and it's Chinese Fire Drill time. Happens I got the rare chance to be part of two succesive recounts, Op-scan paper in '04, mix of paper on request and Hart's E-Slate. Paper, no problem, a tedious Sat. and we are done to everyone's satisfaction. The E-Slate took two weekends, a Hart tech rep, and we never could account for the number of voters to within the margin of defeat. The trailing primary candidate finally conceded rather than cost the county the expense of a new election, which he could have had for the asking.
At least here one can get a paper ballot on request and a few of us troublemakers have turned that into a minor crusade. I resigned as precinct judge after 14 years to protest poor ballot security on e-voting, made quite a stink.
